Release 38: Anastasis

With this update, another new species of opponent is now available: Undead Chosen!  These Chosen are those who remember experiencing some sort of "death."  They include heroes who died in battle against the Demons but were revived through the faith of the public, monsters of the night created by practitioners of necromantic arts, and ghosts who somehow remained attached to the world of the living.  Regardless of their origin, all of these Undead Chosen possess a suite of powers which makes them quite tricky to defeat despite their relatively frail, insubstantial nature.

Starting in Loop 5 of campaign mode, the first city option will always be defended by at least one Undead Chosen and the second city option will always be defened by at least one Animalistic Chosen.  In later loops, Undead and Animalistic Chosen can even be found on teams together.  They have roughly the same degree of difficulty, but their gameplay mechanics are quite different.  The species reference file has been updated to include details on Undead Chosen, and the new Undead Clash scenario has been added for players who wish to practice against them outside of campaign mode.

This update has a bit of new sexual content relevant to the new species.  The bodies of Chosen and Forsaken can now be made out of ghostly ectoplasm (used by some undead subspecies) or translucent slime (currently only used when specifically picked during customization).  Amorphous penetration actions have been added for when one custom sex scene participant is made of one of these materials and the other has a penis.  Additionally, the body's sexual experience and the mind's sexual experience are now tracked separately.  This currently only comes up for Undead Aversion-Distorted Chosen (because the player gains the ability to completely rewrite the subject's mind), but it opens the door to a lot of possession and mind-manipulation content for the future.

Unrelated to Undead Chosen, another vignette commissioned by Kalloi has been added to the game, this one between an Aversion Chosen and a Rampancy Chosen who have a friendly relationship.  It's now also possible to encounter a loved one of your Bait Forsaken during single play mode, so players who enjoy that aspect of the game can enjoy it even without playing through a campaign.

Finally, there's the usual set of bugfixes and balance adjustments.  Notably, the Empathy endgame upgrade has been reworked to make it more viable to let friendships develop between the Chosen.  During the final battle, when the upgrade has been bought, Chosen with Unbreakable Friendships will now absolutely refuse to kill each other when the surrounded/captured Chosen has at least 50% Resolve, regardless of how corrupted that Chosen is.  This gives you a lot more time to convert the Chosen, but it also means that you can't rely on them killing each other for you, so it's an upgrade that should only be taken with caution.

The next update will be focused on custom sex scenes, although I do have a few gameplay features I'd like to squeeze into it if I have the time.  After that, it'll be time to start working on the last major feature planned for campaign mode: boss fights.

  1. Hello! Reporting a weird bug - for some reason, doing Apply Aphrodisiac -> Persecute softlocks the game for me - "proceed" and "cancel" buttons appear but attempting to press on proceed pushes the button in but doesn't progress anything - the game also displays the persecute training flavor text but doesn't show the xp values gained. This doesn't seem to happen with other training combinations that I've seen so far, so it seems very specific, but the softlock occurs with all three of my loop 1 chosen regardless of stamina levels and on any day. All three are tempted chosen, in case it matters.

    1. Can confirm, this happens to me as well on my straight vulnerability break save.

    2. Trying to deploy a blood knight forsaken also soft locks the game, with the "done" button being grayed out.

    3. Thanks for the bug reports. These should be fixed in the version I've just uploaded.

    4. Thanks for the quick fixes! Using these against the new undead right now!

  2. If I might ask, what was your inspiration for the names of the boss chosen?

    1. I had the ten sefirot in mind when I designed them, although they've been pretty heavily adapted to fit this setting.

    2. I see. Have you, by any chance, heard of the game Lobotomy Corporation?

    3. I've heard it referenced as having a character called the Queen of Hatred, who's apparently some sort of magical girl. Beyond that, I'm not familiar with it.

    4. It has a rather interesting take on personifying the sefirot

  3. Do undead chosen have specific scenes with commanders and forsaken when captured? Or are just pulling from the normal commander scenes?

    1. Currently, they just pull from the normal scenes. Unique combat flavor related to their body traits (like what's currently used by the ovipostor body modification) is planned.

  4. Bug report - using a animalistic demon knight (warbeast), capturing and releasing during the fight softlocks some options. Specifically, "Surround"ing the same chosen and pressing grind/caress/pummel/humiliate buttons does not end the round. Then if I "Capture" the second chosen, the first surrounded chosen has all four actions ongoing. This softlock only occurs when the second chosen has arrived.
Another bug - if I try to Release the second capture chosen, then at the "continue" button, pressing the continue button does not advance the scene, resulting in a softlock.

    2. I wasn't able to reproduce these bugs. It's likely that there's something else wrong with your save which is causing this to happen as a side effect. If you upload it for me, I can take a look. Otherwise, you might be able to fix it on your end by building a Demon commander, then immediately refunding it and using the same Forsaken again (because doing this resets some commander info).

  5. bug on 38b, it seems that deploying forsaken does not actually affect their stamina/motivation stats, blood knight is staying at the same stam/motivation % after deployment and same for a tempted forsaken staying at 100% stamina after being deployed

    1. Thanks for catching this. It should be fixed in 38c, which I've just uploaded.

  6. Is a rework of the customization system planned anytime soon? One thing that always bothered me is that you can't change the chosen's features to another archetype's without loosing the flavor texts.

    1. Probably pretty soon. I'm going to be reworking a lot of that stuff at the same time as I add the related actions to custom sex scenes.

  7. I just wanted to say, I discovered this game just recently and my god, it may be one of the best corruption games I have ever played. Thank you very much for your kind work.

  8. I'm a little confused by the various portrait packs in the download. The custom portraits folder seems much larger and more details, do I just replace the contents of the game/portraits folder with that and it works?

    Replies
    1. That's right. The default portrait pack is just whatever I've had time to throw together while spending most of my time developing the game itself. The fan-made packs have a lot more work put into them. If you paste the fan-made pack over the default one, it should replace the default portraits (and, depending on the pack, also give you different portraits depending on species, transformation status, etc.).
