Release 13: Preparation

This update comes just after the anniversary of the first public release of Corrupted Saviors.  The past year of development has been focused on setup for the Chosen's fall to the side of the Demons.  The coming year will be focused on the payoff.  The update following this one will implement the final battle.

As for the current update, its most notable feature is the new event on Day 45.  This event isn't as sexual as the last one, but it provides an overview of how the Chosen will be faring as they head into the final battle.  A new cheat will allow even players who have progressed their files beyond Day 45 to see this new content.

Additionally, the final tier of upgrades has been added.  This tier is larger than the others at 8 upgrades, although 2 of the upgrades have no function until the final battle and 4 more have effects which are fairly minor until the final battle.  However, the last 2 upgrades are high-impact Commander abilities, including the ability to combine a Punisher, a Defiler, and a Suppressor on the same body.  There are 64 different Punisher/Defiler/Suppressor combinations, and while I wasn't able to add unique flavor to as many of the combinations as I would have liked, it should still let you break some Vulnerabilities in new scenarios.

I hope you all enjoy this update and look forward to the next one!

Release 12: Punishment

This update adds both the seventh tier of upgrades and the final level of corruption.  Four of the upgrades are new Commander types, each of which is associated with one of the vulnerabilities.  These new "Punisher"-class Commanders are cheap to use and deal extremely focused damage to a circumstance and the associated trauma, which makes them useful for targeting specific trauma thresholds while leaving the others relatively untouched.

However, the new Commanders reach their full potential against Chosen who are already corrupt enough to use sinful tactics in combat.  Every time the Chosen use one of those sinful abilities (Slaughter, Fantasize, Detonate, and Striptease), they become permanently weaker against the associated Commander.  Past a certain point, the Commanders become capable of impregnating, hypnotizing, draining energy, and possessing and altering the clothing of the Chosen.  Each of these corruptions will open up a method to completely defeat the Chosen once the final battle is implemented, and will also affect the options for what to do with them after they've fallen.

  • Content: Added the seventh tier of upgrades, all of which are Commander abilities.  The new Commander types can't yet be combined with the old ones, but they introduce some new types of content that weren't available before.  Another notable upgrade is the ability to capture Chosen who are already flying over the battlefield.
  • Content: Added the final tier of corruption.  The new set of core break scenes is less sexually-focused than the previous ones, but it does finally make it so that any team of Chosen can now be made mutual enemies, regardless of which vulnerabilities start broken.
  • Content: Added a new set of downtime actions and profile updates for the new corruption tier.
  • Balance: The rate of damage falloff for every order of magnitude above 1 trillion has been increased from 50% to 80%.
  • Bugfix: Corrected some incorrect Commander descriptions during the scenes where the Chosen escape.

Release 11: Mitigation

The main feature of this update is the addition of the most powerful defiler action, Orgy, which acts as the last step above the upgraded defiler actions added in the previous update.  When all three Chosen are hit by the same defiler action, they all get caught together in an attack which deals all of the damage types at once, regardless of which action was used to initiate it.  The Orgy action follows the same rules about letting all the targets escape as soon as any of them do, and it doesn't break any vulnerabilities on its own, but it gets a stack of modifiers based on relationships and previously-broken vulnerabilities that makes it very strong even when it's only applied for a few turns.  Orgies also have a larger number of scene and dialog variations than the other defiler actions, so I hope you all enjoy exploring them.

The other major addition is a very soft cap on the amount of trauma of each type that can be acquired in one battle.  This only applies above 1 trillion damage, which means it doesn't kick in until you've already gotten enough trauma to see all the corruption content up to this point.  Part of my reason for implementing this was to make it less easy to break the scoring system, but the main purpose was to test the mechanic for eventual use in the difficulty toggle system somewhere down the line.

With this update, all the basic mechanics that were originally planned for battle have been implemented.  All that remain are the last two tiers of upgrades, which will involve the last tier of corruption and the final battle.  There have also been some good suggestions for content toggles and quality-of-life features that I'll try to put in along the way.

  • Content: Added a new special defiler action triggered by hitting all three Chosen with the same defiler action at once.  See Step 8 of guide.txt for further details.
  • Balance: Trauma acquired in each battle will now be cut in half above every order of magnitude past 1 trillion.
  • Interface: Tooltips for upgraded defiler actions are now distinct from the tooltips for regular defiler actions.
  • Interface: Buttons for upgrades bought before the battle will now display tooltips that summarize their effects.
  • Bugfix: Attempted to fix some file path issues reported by Linux users.  If this doesn't work, let me know.
Release 11b
  • Bugfix: Damage values in the quadrillions will no longer abruptly jump to Long.MAX_VALUE and then usually crash the game.
  • Bugfix: Some of the forced threesome scenes during Orgy will no longer be inappropriately rare to trigger.
  • Bugfix: The Chosen will stop using Striptease in unusually inappropriate circumstances.
  • Bugfix: The bar that shows projected extermination next turn will no longer sometimes incorrectly take surrounded Chosen into account.
  • Bugfix: The total multiplier summary of all other active multipliers should be able to handle much higher multiplier combinations.
  • Bugfix: A source of post-battle trauma overflow errors has been plugged.

Release 10: Duplicity

This update finally adds the upgraded versions of the defiler actions: Inseminate+, Force Orgasm+, Sodomize+/Torture+/Force Laughter+, and Broadcast+.  The upgraded version is accessed by using the base version on two targets at the same time, so it's difficult to pull off in the early game, but the rewards are substantial.  The two targets are attacked together (and in many cases, forced to attack each other), which results in a damage multiplier depending on how much they hate each other.  In addition, the upgraded actions deal three types of circumstance damage instead of merely two.

It took longer than expected to write this update, since the number of relationship, circumstance, personality, and content toggle combinations to account for is much higher in scenes with multiple Chosen.  I hope that exploring all the possibilities proves enjoyable!

  • Content: Added upgraded defiler actions when two Chosen are targeted by the same defiler action.
  • Content: Added a brief "Statistics" page to the profiles list unlocked by the Psychic Reading upgrade which currently just shows how much each opening type has contributed to surrounding each of the Chosen.  This was actually added in the previous release, but I forgot to note it in the changelog.  I'm interested in hearing what other information players would find useful.
Release 10b:
  • Bugfix: Attempting to perform upgraded defiler actions using the Networked Consciousness upgrade will no longer sometimes cause targets to escape early.
  • Bugfix: Projections of how many surround turns will be lost by performing an upgraded defiler action should now be accurate.
  • Bugfix: Use of Slaughter on the same turn as an upgraded defiler action begins will no longer desynchronize the surround durations of the Chosen involved.

Release 9: Substitution

This update adds a major content toggle which replaces most of the graphic violence dealt to the Chosen with tickle torture.  PAIN is replaced by TICKling (a measure of trauma caused by the discomfort of being tickled), while INJUry is replaced by ANTIcipation (a broad measure of exhaustion and expectation of further punishment).  Once ANTIcipation is brought high enough, the defiler action "Force Laughter" is possible to break the Chosen's confidence by showing them how little control they have over their own bodies.

Players who are turned off by the more gruesome descriptions should be more able to enjoy the game now.  Because the general status descriptions when the Chosen are not being tickled do not explicitly refer to tickling, I expect that players who are turned off by both tickling and violence will still find the tickling option to be an improvement.  A few descriptions of pain and blood (notably with large insertions, virginity loss, and violence inflicted by the Chosen themselves) remain unchanged.  As with the other content toggles up to this point, the gameplay itself is unaffected.  The graphic violence setting on the main menu will affect all saves, including those from older versions.

There are also a couple of other minor additions and fixes, so hopefully players who aren't into tickling will be glad to see this update as well!

  • -Content: Added a toggle to replace graphic violence with tickling.
  • -Content: Added footwear (and the option to customize it) for the Chosen.
  • -Content: Male Chosen who lose their anal virginity when male shifting is turned on will now shift even when this happens during another Chosen's morality break scene.
  • -Interface: Players who start a new game with early cheats turned on will now be sent to the shop menu instead of the first battle so that they have an option to buy upgrades beforehand.
  • -Bugfix: The Networked Consciousness upgrade will no longer decrease surround durations by 1.
  • -Bugfix: Commanders without Suppressor or Defiler upgrades will now interact properly with Networked Consciousness.
  • -Bugfix: Chosen downtime AI has been refactored to deal with more errors related to Long.MAX_VALUE.

Release 8: Combination

The main feature of this update is the addition of the sixth tier of upgrades.  They're expensive, but they're also strong enough to allow the player to continue to make some headway after the Chosen start using the powerful moves introduced in the previous update.  This will make it easier to see all the current corruption content in a single playthrough.  Additionally, one of the upgrades makes it possible to combine Suppressor- and Defiler-class commanders, which involves some new content of its own.

  • Content: Added six new upgrades.
  • Interface: The options menu now has a separate page for content settings so that it's no longer necessary to resize the window in order to see all the buttons.
  • Bugfix: Buying a six-turn commander now works as advertized.
  • Bugfix: Commanders will no longer penetrate their prey in unintended situations.
  • Bugfix: Refactored the damage code to avoid errors when approaching Long.MAX_VALUE.
  • Bugfix: Corrected various problems in distinguishing between male/female/futanari Chosen.
Release 8b
  • Bugfix: Certain personality combinations will no longer crash the game when performing high-tier sinful downtime actions as a group.

Release 7: Adaptation

This is a large update which implements the beginning of the endgame.  It adds the third tier of corruption, which is like the first tier in that it causes the Chosen to start using more powerful, more sinful abilities.  This generates large amounts of Evil Energy, but because not all the purchasable upgrades have been added yet, there's a lack of things to spend that Evil Energy on.  As a result, this update represents a temporary difficulty spike, and players should consider it a victory state to break even three or four of the vulnerabilities in a single playthrough.  Note that the Chosen never start with this tier of vulnerability already broken.

The core vulnerability break scenes are also much more severe than the previous ones, with the Chosen outright assaulting each other to make themselves feel better.  This can result in chain reactions where all lower vulnerabilities of the same type are broken (e.g. one deflowering another), which produces even greater amounts of bonus Evil Energy.  Each scene has quite a few variants depending on what's already broken and what's not.

A minor addition that bears mentioning is the "Bitter Enemies" and "Unbreakable Friendship" relationship states.  When two Chosen grow so loving or so hateful that there aren't enough scenes left in the game to reverse their relationship, the effects of their relationship grow much stronger.  This calculation takes the not-yet-implemented fourth corruption tier into account, so it won't necessarily be seen in a complete playthrough yet, but it can now appear for the first time.

Finally, this isn't directly related to the development of Corrupted Saviors, but I'd like to thank the Anon that recommended Slay the Spire to me.  Its design has proven very enjoyable and thought-provoking.

  • Content: Added the third tier of corruption, activated at very high trauma levels.  In addition to the usual corruption content, this tier enables new moves for the Chosen, significantly changing the flow of combat.
  • Content: Added some more extreme sex scenes that happen when one of the new core vulnerabilities is broken.  Breaking more than one or two of the new vulnerabilities on a single character is currently very difficult, so players who are just interested in seeing the new scenes may find it easier to load a lategame save from the previous version.
  • Content: Added a toggle to allow regular female Chosen to become futanari upon third-tier Innocence break.
  • Content: Added "Bitter Enemies" and "Unbreakable Friendship" relationship statuses.
  • Balance: Saves loaded from previous versions now reset high scores and automatically activate early cheats.  A cheatless run against an old party can still be attempted by exporting the playthrough and loading the Day 1 save.
  • Balance: Updated Chosen AI to be more reasonable in general.
  • Interface: The Suppressor and Defiler upgrades in the Commander menu now show which circumstances are inflicted.
  • Other: Updates to the tips and guide to explain the new gameplay elements.
  • Other: The Male/Female/Futanari shifting setting in the main options menu now applies to all saves, regardless of that save's initial setting.  This may be used to change the setting in the middle of a playthrough.
  • Other: Various fixes to cases where male Chosen were being referred to as female and vice versa.
Release 7b:
  • Bugfix: Menus will no longer stop working when they have too many buttons (however, you may need to resize the window to see them all - a more permanent fix is incoming).

Release 6c: Variation

This update overhauls the system to allow for male and futanari Chosen.  It involved quite a lot of rewriting content, particlarly in scenes involving multiple participants, so as always, I appreciate being notified of any spots where the text doesn't make sense.

There are a couple of minor improvements to the interface, but otherwise, this release doesn't really add anything for players who play with exclusively female Chosen.  However, the next release will move the game forward to the next tier of corruption, so I hope everyone can look forward to it!

  • Content: Added male and futanari Chosen.  Their relative occurrence may be adjusted in the options menu.  Male Chosen have some different but functionally identical defilement milestones.
  • Content: The player may set male Chosen to permanently turn into girls or futanari upon being inseminated (whether by Thralls or by the Commander body).
  • Interface: The buttons for the four basic attacks have been rearranged to match the order of the four trauma damage types.  The hotkeys have similarly been rearranged - 1: Threaten, 2: Slime, 3: Attack, 4: Taunt.
  • Interface: The player may now toggle the marker that separates passages of text to be larger and more obvious.
  • Bugfix: Commanders will no longer mysteriously deal less damage on the first round of combat.
  • Other: A new option has been added to turn on cheats even before reaching Day 30.  The button is invisible when no save file past Day 30 is detected, but the player may still activate this option by hitting "c" on the keyboard when viewing the options menu.
Release 6b:
  • Interface: Replaced the passage separator toggle with an input that allows players to enter a separator of their choice.
  • Bugfix: The keyboard input to turn on early cheats is now properly confined to the options menu.
  • Bugfix: The early cheats setting will now carry over into custom games as well.
Release 6c:
  • Other: Packaged an .exe version of the game along with a .jar one.

Release 5: Embodiment

This is a large update which adds the next tier of upgrades, more content to the early and late game, and numerous interface improvements.  Note that saves and parties from the last version will not be compatible with this one.

As always, the feedback has been useful in improving the game, and more is always appreciated.  Enjoy!

  • Content: Added the fifth upgrade tier, which consists of several new Commander modifications.
  • Content: The new upgrades will allow your Commander body to break some Vulnerabilities.  The game tracks the conditions in which Vulnerabilities were broken so that, for example, it will remember that you deflowered each of the Chosen personally instead of using your Thralls.
  • Content: A new event has been added on Day 30.  Scoring and cheat activation have been moved and adjusted accordingly.
  • Interface: Minor changes to the Psychic Reading profiles to clarify which Vulnerabilities are broken in which ways.
  • Interface: Hotkeys can now be used to input actions during battle.  See the attached text file for a list of hotkeys.
  • Interface: Hovering the mouse over a button in combat will now show a tooltip indicating the button's effects and its hotkey.
  • Interface: During a replay of a file with written commentary, the spacebar may be used to skip through battles.
  • Interface: Evacuation and extermination are now shown with progress bars.  The amount completed, the amount that will be completed assuming no surrounding or capturing, and the amount that can theoretically be completed if all the Chosen use the Blast action are all shown.
  • Interface: The names of the actions taken by the Chosen are now displayed.
  • Interface: The dark colorscheme is now the default option.
  • Interface: Added the option to use a larger text size.
  • Interface: When the player has the ability to buy a Commander but has not yet done so for the coming battle, the button is highlighted in yellow.
  • Balance: When multiple Core Vulnerabilities are broken in a single battle, the corresponding scenes will now happen on the same day.
  • Balance: Upon the first time reaching Lv 2 circumstance damage against the Chosen strongest against that circumstance, the player is granted +2 bonus Evil Energy.  This can make 1-cost Commanders useful even early in the game.
  • Bugfix: The tutorial will no longer get confused by the existence of the commentary system.
  • Bugfix: The damage bars will no longer loop for values above 10 trillion.
  • Bugfix: The multiplier summary will no longer display incorrect values when very high multipliers are involved.

Release 3: Defilement

This is a large content update which introduces the next tier of upgrades and corruption.  With this, the early midgame has pretty much taken shape.  I have a fairly solid idea of how the rest of the game should ultimately come together, but I'm taking input on which features should take priority and whether there are any other minor additions that might make the game more playable in the short term.  I'm also interested in hearing more feedback about the game balance now that more of the central features have been included.  Enjoy!

  • Content: Added "defiler" actions which traumatize the Chosen and change the way they think about themselves.  They can be used on surrounded Chosen who have any type of circumstance damage above 10k.
  • Content: Each type of defiler action unlocks a new, higher level of corrupt downtime activity.  Variants are included for when two or three of the Chosen partake in the same corrupt downtime activity.
  • Content: New scenes between Chosen have been added for when defiler actions break core vulnerabilities.
  • Content: The personal profiles visible with the Psychic Reading upgrade will update to take the new level of corruption into account.
  • Balance: Every generated team of Chosen will now include at least one girl with no broken vulnerabilities and one girl with at least one broken vulnerability.
  • Balance: When downtime activities cause ANGST to underflow, the excess ANGST is now exchanged to resolve trauma on a 10-for-1 basis (down from 1-for-1).
  • Balance: When all three Chosen participate in the same downtime activity, each one of them no longer benefits from the relationship between the other two.
  • Balance: Chosen are now more willing to perform sinful downtime activities at lower trauma.  This should make it more viable to get one's energy back for buying an early Commander in order to traumatize Chosen with pre-broken vulnerabilities.
  • Interface: The damage bars will no longer 'max out' at 10 million damage.
  • -Other: After Day 15, the player can choose to cheat for extra Evil Energy.
  • -Other: The tutorial battle has been adjusted and slightly expanded upon.
  • -Other: Various text fixes and clarifications.

Release 2: "Guidance"

This is a small update which fixes bugs and implements several changes suggested in the feedback to the first release.  I hope it's enjoyable!

  • Balance: INJU's multiplier to circumstance damage is now x4 per level (down from x5).
  • Balance: The "Weakness Sense" upgrade now increases circumstance damage to surrounded Chosen by 50% (up from 20%).
  • Balance: Damage from Suppressor-class Commander upgrades increased by 33%.
  • Bugfix: A Commander which is sent to capture its target at the start of battle will no longer lose any additional captures bought for it.
  • Bugfix: Cleaned up code for Chosen arriving in the middle of battle.  They should always be showing up when intended now.
  • Bugfix: The text window will no longer fail to keep up with new lines of text added.
  • Bugfix: The displayed color of DISG damage against surrounded and captured Chosen will now correctly reflect how much of the damage level will be applied to the opening level after their escape.
  • Interface: The text window will automatically clear itself upon the start of a new day.
  • Interface: The menu for upgrading your Commander will now display available upgrades and their costs regardless of whether you can afford them.
  • Interface: The game now calculates the total multiplier currently applied to each damage type and includes it in the damage display.
  • Interface: Circumstance damage is now color-coded as well, so that you can tell at a glance where you're getting a higher multiplier.
  • Interface: An Examine button has been added to combat.  With the "Psychic Reading" upgrade, this allows the player to check the target's vulnerabilities in the middle of battle.
  • Content: Even without the associated upgrade, using Examine will report in more detail any damage to the target's body, mind, and clothes.
  • Content: When circumstance damage reaches the next level, what's happening to the target will be described in more detail, with particular focus on clothing damage.
  • Content: A tutorial has been added to the main menu.  This walks the player through a battle against a pre-generated team of Chosen.  The player can go off the rails at any time in order to try other strategies.
  • Content: Various improvements and polishing to descriptive text and dialogue.
  • Other: The tips that display on the shop screen have been copied into a text file so they may all be browsed at the user's leisure.
  • Other: The guide has been updated to answer some frequently asked questions and provide some more strategy suggestions for new players.

The balance changes deserve some explanation.  Prior to this update, Chosen who were weak to INJU were much easier to corrupt, and Chosen who were strong against INJU were much harder to corrupt.  The changes decrease the INJU multiplier, but increase the base amount of circumstance damage (especially from Commanders, who were a bit underwhelming before).  The result should be that targets at INJU 0 take more damage, targets at INJU 1 take at least as much damage, and targets at INJU 2 take a bit less damage.  The difficulty of breaking vulnerabilities is overall about the same, but it's more consistent between different Chosen.  Scores might be a bit lower since it's harder to farm loads of trauma from whichever target is weakest to INJU.

The next release will be a larger content-focused one.  It will add another tier to the upgrade tree as well as the next stage of corruption, which involves special actions that become available against surrounded targets at 10k circumstance damage.  Once that release is completed, the midgame will have begun to take shape, and it will be more clear whether the game's overall balance needs adjustment.
