Release 48: Devilry

With this update, campaign mode is now another large step closer to being completed, as the fifth Chosen species has been added: Devil Chosen.  Rather than serving evil, Devils in the Corrupted Saviors universe are all about punishing mortals for their sins.  They consist of various subspecies, each of which specializes in punishing a different sin.  Fallen angels who punish sinners in Hell are of course present, but there are also oni who punish those who think themselves undefeatable, or bogeygirls who lurk in wait for anybody who disobeys the rules.

In campaign mode, Devils will show up after Splendor has been defeated, which means that they can appear in Loop 11 at the earliest.  They're very powerful, almost as strong as the bosses themselves, and so the new Devilish Clash scenario only puts you up against a single Devil with two regular human allies.  The abilities of Devil Chosen are based around getting stronger as their allies suffer more ANGST damage, so you have to be very careful about fighting them.  But after they fall to the side of the Demons, their Forsaken abilities are also on a whole new level.

The minor additions for this update include a new item which makes an alternate-universe evil duplicate of one of the Chosen to add to your Forsaken roster, so I imagine that fans of selfcest might find that enjoyable.  A new category of Forsaken customization has also been added, "tools," which allow you to customize how your Forsaken fight against the Chosen.  Currently, the only tool is a permanent-breast-expansion-incuding Demon which can normally only be equipped by Chosen who see the Satisfied Curiosity vignette commissioned by Kalloi.  This is a pretty steep requirement, but all tools will be equippable using cheat mode.

Everything is now in place for Angel Chosen to be added, but I want to collect some feedback about Devil Chosen before I add another species at the same power level.  So, next month is going to be an update focused on flavor content, including a new intermission scene similar to the Day 15 interview (but maybe a bit more sexy).  In the meantime, I'd very much like to hear everybody's thoughts on the new species!

  1. Hello, a minor bug - triggering aversion distortion and then reaching T3 confidence break will warn the player that the confidence break would disrupt the distortion, despite not doing so

    1. Thanks for letting me know that this could happen, but I haven't been able to replicate it yet. Does it also show a red "/" symbol somewhere in the Info menu corruption summary, or did the warning only appear in the daily report?

    2. Yes, it also showed as red "/" symbol in the menu on the next day after warning me about it - earlier in the run I had swapped plans between my distortions, so I wonder if this is part of the reproduction - maybe the warning for a different distortion plan did not turn off.

    3. I think I figured out what happened, the red / was signifying that when the T3 break happened, since this was a core break, the Chosen would go rape another chosen and ruin their distortion? If this is the case, it was not very clear at all that she would mess with someone else's distortion solely based on the red slash

    4. Figuring out how to communicate that better is something I've wanted to do for awhile. The scenes where Chosen break each other were added before Distortions were, and so the two systems sort of step on each other's toes. There also should have been a red text message during the downtime after the T3 threshold was hit, but I might need to add something that stands out more.

  2. Dumb question, the cheat option is no longer in the options menu. How do I enable cheats?

    1. It should appear as long as you have any save file which is past the day of the final battle (including campaign mode saves from Loop 2 or later).

  3. New player here, I like the game so far, but the mid-game seems to just drag on and on if you don't things practically perfect.
Some upgrades for the commander that cost EE to use (such as Relentless) should be free considering they already cost 40EE to begin with, that 10 cost to apply fucked me over in the final battle of my first playthrough, and there are probably other upgrades that should be free to apply as well.
The aforementioned trap of the mid-game really needs to be altered, as I said if you're not playing practically perfectly then you're just going to be stuck in a mediocre loop until you crap out at the end. This trap means that a very specific choice of upgrades is required, and if you deviate from it you won't be able to glut yourself on EE and will just stagnate with a mere +5/6 EE per battle for well over 20 days unless you just deliberately throw battles just to stockpile.
Speaking of stockpiling, the Retreat option is practically worthless, the requirements of it suggest late game usage, but the cost says early/mid-game usage, of which both will not be able to rack up the 5/10/15 turns required to pay out a paltry +1/2/3 EE, especially when it's more valuable to just inflict breaks on the Chosen and harvest the EE from that. The 5 EE cost to even be able to get it is also just insulting considering the other upgrades available at its tier.

    1. Thanks for the feedback. I've been interested to hear how upgrades which some people find useless are considered useful by others (and vice versa).

  4. Just curious, but I've noticed that for some reason the game seems to have starting using torture instead of sodomize for confidence defiler. I don't think I changed anything that would have caused this.

    1. The Confidence Defiler used by Forsaken is always displayed as "Torture", regardless of settings, so that might explain what you're seeing. Otherwise, I'd need to see the genders of your Chosen team to figure out whether it's a bug.

  5. out of curiosity, when (if ever) do you expect to have the time to add mora/inno and conf/dign distortions?

    1. It's one of the possible next features after Angels are added.

  6. It seems strange that rivalries between chosen are increased by certain events. I have a girl undergoing negotiation who is rivals with the other two, but it seems counterintuitive that high corruption events like the total dignity break club show happening to one of her rivals would increase enmity instead of reducing it.

    1. Sometimes it's difficult to match the flavor with the gameplay, but I think it's important that the rules for how breaks affect relationships should always work the same way.

  7. I've got a pretty bad bug. I can't save at all. My options won't stick and if I try to save no saves file is generated. Problem persists between both .exe and .jar. Running in admin mode doesn't fix it. I even tried copying an old save file over but it doesn't load.

    1. I think I figured it out. I had it in a folder with a "+" sign. I put it higher in the folder structure and now it works. I think the game doesn't handle unusual folder names right.

    2. Thanks for letting me know about this issue. I'll see if there's anything I can do on my end to help the game handle unusual folder names.
