Release 47: Purity

This update's main feature is the ability to designate virgin Chosen as off-limits for any Thralls or Commanders who might want to deflower them.  When this toggle is in effect, the Inseminate action and all associated actions will be replaced with provocation-themed variants.  Gameplay-wise, these function the same - rather than traumatizing the Chosen through penetration, the Demons instead force the Chosen to use especially violent methods to defend themselves.  These both result in Morality Break, more FEAR and HATE damage, more sinful coping mechanisms, and so on.  But the difference is that it's now possible to put the Chosen on Morality-breaking corruption paths while still saving their virginity for later or even letting them remain virginal indefinitely.  For those who play with male Chosen, the toggle functions for them as well (though of course it deals with anal virginity rather than vaginal virginity).

Another major addition is the ability to have custom sex scenes with more than two participants.  This doesn't yet work with Chosen (because there's more work necessary to make them respond in reasonable ways), but the player can now gather together a group with arbitrarily-many Forsaken and then either let them play with each other or join in personally.  The implementation is still a bit rough around the edges, because even though I tried to future-proof it as best I could, there are still some parts that were written with only two participants in mind, and those parts might come across as a bit awkward with three or more.  But at least it's now possible to have a big happy orgy with all your fallen heroines.  Now the custom sex scene system just needs to be fleshed out with more options to give everybody something to do.

Additionally, this update includes a new "attitude toward penis" system for female and futanari characters, commissioned by SqueeNoEvil.  Futanari characters will have an opinion about having a penis, and this opinion will be influenced by their personality but will not be wholly dependent on it.  Some futanari characters will be proud of their penises, others will be ashamed to have one, others still will have mixed feelings, and those who have been thoroughly corrupted will have opinions colored by their corruption.  While futanari are enabled, there will even be some female Chosen who have fantasies of growing a penis and will be happy to do so.  Much of the flavor text and dialogue has had variants added which take penis attitude into account, and the attitude may also be directly checked in the body stats menu.  This system can be considered a trial run of a more extensive attitude system which gives the Chosen dynamic opinions on a variety of matters.

As always, this update comes with various small tweaks and bugfixes.  When Defiler actions were made available to all sufficiently-corrupted Forsaken last update, there was an oversight in that Distorted Forsaken weren't exempt from the Obedience requirement (as they are for Punisher positions).  That has been fixed.  The permanent collar from the Descent of Guilt vignette chain has also now been technically added to the game, though its numerical effects will need to wait for the next batch of custom sex scene actions.

Next update will be the first new species introduction in quite awhile: Devil Chosen.  This will represent another big step forward toward the completion of campaign mode, so I hope that everybody looks forward to it!

Release 46: Surrender

Where the last few releases were about customizing the initial state of the Chosen, the next couple of releases will be about customizing how they're corrupted.  There are a few new features added in this release, and I'm hopeful that most players will be interested in at least one of them.

First off, a new body shift commissioned by SqueeNoEvil has been added to the game.  When it's toggled on, futanari Chosen who experience Tier-2 Dignity Break (that is, being Broadcasted for the first time) will lose their penises due to the collective desire of the public to see them as fully female.  As with all body shifts, this is toggled on an individual Chosen basis, and so Chosen from previous versions will default to remaining futanari unless the player goes to their individual profile and toggles their shift preferences.

Tangentially related to the above, there has been a fairly significant balance change in that Forsaken no longer require special training to perform Defiler actions (although the bonus they get from having that training is still very large).  The flavor for Forsaken achieving Vulnerability Breaks against the Chosen is pretty detailed, especially when a body shift is involved, so I'd highly recommend that players who haven't seen them yet give it a try.  The Forsaken Reference .txt file has been updated with the details of the new loosened requirements.

Another major flavor addition is the ability to deflower the Chosen during custom sex scenes.  This involved separating Morality Break from virginity status, a task that had already been half-completed with the addition of Chosen motherhood a little while back.  The Chosen still can't be taken against their will in custom sex scenes - if their HATE gets high enough to break their Sexual Barrier, then they'll flee.  But with Innocence Break and Confidence Break, it's very possible to get them to consent to sex, especially on the Negotiation Distortion path, and they also may be willing to give their virginity to a former partner or other loved one sent to meet them.  There will be a purple text announcement whenever a Sexual Barrier goes down.

Finally, the clothing overhaul from last update has been expanded to apply to custom sex scenes as well.  Characters will dress up appropriately before heading out depending on their corruption, their feelings regarding who they're meeting, and whether they'll be seen by the public.  New actions have been added for undressing oneself and others, and characters will use those actions according to what kind of sex acts they want to perform.

The next update will contain more content along these lines: the option to preserve Chosen virginity regardless of Morality Break will be added, and custom sex scenes will see an even greater expansion of possibilities.  We're approaching the end of the customization push, after which more gameplay content will be coming.

Release 45: Adornment

This update continues the recent push toward improved customization options for the Chosen.  Previously, Chosen outfits were extremely simple.  They consisted of chest clothing, hips clothing, and sometimes footwear and panties.  This has been replaced by an extremely flexible system where Chosen outfits may contain any number of articles of clothing, and each article of clothing has its own list of which body parts it covers.  The old default outfits have been moved to this new system, and players can also make their own detailed outfits for custom Chosen.  The improved custom clothing interface also now allows players to set Chosen to use an outfit normally reserved for another personality type, or to write up their own fancy transformation paragraph to go with a custom outfit.

Although the main focus here was improving customization, there are also some downstream effects which should prove enjoyable even for players using a completely default roster.  When examining Chosen, the game will now generate a paragraph describing their current clothing.  And when the Chosen take clothing damage during battle, this paragraph will be updated appropriately - there's a small random element to which parts of each article of clothing are destroyed when hitting any given EXPO level, and the Regenerate move will also repair clothing randomly, so these descriptions should have plenty of variety even when examining the same Chosen across multiple battles.

As a convenient showcase of the new clothing system, the commissioned content from last month has been updated.  The "From the Descent of Guilt" vignette now actually gives the subject a pair of persistent nipple piercings which will be mentioned whenever viewed while topless, and the new Tempt variants now change the subject's worn clothing (while also making the Thralls more reluctant to damage the kinky outfit).  Furthermore, when Tempting a target who has suffered Total Dignity Break, the exhibitionistic outfit she adopts will become a permanent fixture of her Chosen transformation.

I've done as much as I can to smooth the transition to the new system, but a rework as big as this one rarely goes off without a hitch.  In particular, because of the huge number of options when designing clothing, the customization interface on the player's end is pretty clunky.  It's also not practical for me to check every possible combination of clothing coverage to make sure that the examination descriptions flow naturally.  Player feedback is very welcome on both of these points, because I'm interested in improving them as time goes on.

Saves should be compatible between this version and the last one, but because the game has no way of knowing what the player had in mind when making custom clothes in the previous versions, the coverage will just use a set of default clothing designs.  Players who want to make the fullest of the new system will have to remake their custom Chosen, but this should be a one-time affair.  Currently, the clothing description paragraph is lacking in some ways (notably it doesn't cover armwear, headwear, the from-behind view, and some types of open clothing).  But once the paragraph is improved, it will retroactively be able to produce the improved description for outfits designed in this version.

The next update will focus on custom sex scenes, which will include updating them to use the new clothing system.  This will allow crotchless panties and such to actually be relevant, and it will also enable more corruption-highlighting content in that Chosen and Forsaken will be able to make varying decisions for what to wear as civilians.  This will also be a good chance to add some more sex actions that have been on hold for a long time, so I hope that you'll all be looking forward to it!

Release 44: Metamorphosis

The focus of this update was the expansion of the body asset size system introduced in the last update, but there's a bunch of other content and balance adjustments as well.  Body dimensions can now be customized, and there's a new optional system for Forsaken where the body shift can be accomplished in-game by fulfilling certain missions against the Chosen.  These missions can be used to expand your Forsaken's assets to hyper-proportioned sizes.

These sizes will be reflected both in the flavor text and, if the appropriate cheat setting is turned on, in their combat performance.  There's a new sub-menu in the options menu where the player can look at all the size-associated combat modifiers and toggle them separately.  Most of them increase how much damage your Forsaken deal, so they make the game a bit easier.  But even for players who prefer to play without reduced difficulty, the damage modifiers and flavor text will still apply to custom sex scenes.  Penetrative actions in particular can turn out very differently depending on the relative sizes involved.

On the gameplay front, the main addition is the ability to "skip" certain campaign loops by fulfilling some special conditions.  These conditions are listed in the new "campaign map" file included with the download.  They aren't easy, and they mean skipping some opportunities to add Forsaken to your roster, but the bonus Influence points (for generating powerful items) may be worth it.  If every possible loop skip is taken, then the Loop 10 boss fight will be only the 5th loop of the campaign.  For any players who have been intimidated by the prospect of starting a long campaign playthrough, this might be a good time to try it out.

There's also been a slew of balance adjustments, most notably to the three weakest campaign starting items.  Unicorn Lard and Inferno Pepper simply grant more energy later in campaign mode, while Tomorrow's Newspaper has been completely reworked to make Demon Commanders and their associated upgrades more attractive.  See the changelog for the rest of the changes.

Finally, there's also been some more commissioned flavor text added to the game.  Kalloi's Negotiation vignette chain which a lot of players have seemed to enjoy has had its conclusion written and added.  The subscriber Elmsdor has also commissioned some more variants to the Tempt moves in combat (including both surrounded variants with Thralls and a variant when captured by a Tempted Forsaken).  These commissions both involve some changes to the Chosen's wardrobe, and while the game currently doesn't have the ability to make these changes persistent, that's exactly what I'm going to be working on next month.

The main focus of the next update will be the clothing system overhaul.  I've gotten a lot of requests from players wanting to make custom Chosen with as much detail in their flavor text as the default Chosen, so this should give them all that and then some.

Release 43: Fortification

This update marks the beginning of a push toward better customization content, although it does have one major gameplay addition.  The "Strategic Advantage" system now activates upon starting Loop 12 of campaign mode (and there's also a new single play scenario featuring the system for those who want to give it a try immediately).  When Strategic Advantage is enabled, dealing damage to the Chosen will grant the player points which can be used to seize objectives in the city.  Each objective gives a different unique bonus, like causing some of the damage dealt to the Chosen to carry over into the next day.  This should make for some more interesting gameplay decisions when it isn't yet possible to inflict a new level of Vulnerability Break on the Chosen, but a new objective is still in reach to be seized.

The majority of the work for this update went into flavor content.  There are some new story scenes, including a series for Victory's boss fight to match the one that Splendor already had.  Chosen and Forsaken can now refer to each other with personalized nicknames and titles - this includes both nicknames set by the player during Chosen customization and nicknames they decide to start using depending on events which occur during the game.  Friendly Chosen can pick nicknames depending on personality, family relationship, and on the vignettes they experience together.  Rival Chosen can pick nicknames depending on the negative Vulnerability Break scenes that turned them into rivals.  I think this does a lot to make the characters and their relationships feel more alive, and there's more that I want to do with this system later.

Finally, this update includes some very brief preliminary work on tracking characters' asset sizes, complete with simple Mendelian inheritance mechanics happening under the hood.  Only breast size, hip size, and penis size are currently tracked, but it will be very simple to add more traits in subsequent updates.  They also only show up in a couple of places (Chosen sex stats screen and Forsaken customize body screen) and can only be influenced in a couple of ways (experiencing first pregnancy, and the Satisfied Curiosity vignette added last update).  More customization options and gameplay interactions are planned.  And for players who prefer for asset sizes to remain up to the player's imagination, this can all be toggled off in the content options menu.

The next update will introduce another major gameplay feature, because I want to add a quicker way for experienced players to access lategame campaign content without having to play through a bunch of loops they've already cleared before.  But aside from that, I want to continue to focus on customization and flavor content for at least one more month.  As excited as I am to push forward into the next stage of campaign mode, I think it's important to make sure that the journey there has plenty of content first.

Release 42: Splendor

Another boss is introduced in this update, completing the first pair.  The new boss is named Splendor, and upon reaching Loop 10 in campaign mode, players will be able to choose between her and Victory when deciding who to face first.  Whoever isn't faced in Loop 10 will appear in Loop 15 (and for saves which were already deep into campaign mode before moving to this update, the bosses can also appear in any later loop that's a multiple of 5).  Splendor also has a unique single play scenario where you face her, although the amount of items you're given for that scenario is much smaller.

You might reasonably wonder why Splendor's scenario gives you fewer resources if the two bosses are meant to be equivalent.  The answer is that many of the challenges presented by Splendor aren't applicable to single play mode.  Where Victory represents the pinnacle of active resistance, Splendor represents the pinnacle of passive resistance, causing trouble for you even after you've "defeated" her.

Because Splendor is the leader of the Undead Chosen, this also seemed like a good time to introduce some other Undead-related features.  A notable balance change is that Undead Chosen can now survive being "killed" in the final battle - they're treated just as if they managed to escape normally.  So, getting their allies to kill them is still useful for the sake of neutralizing the team, but it doesn't actually remove them from the game.  On a similar note, there's now a fair amount of content written around normal and Superior Chosen being killed in the final battle and returning as Undead Chosen.  If you have a particular Chosen you like, and you want her to become an "advanced" species so that she'll still be relevant later in campaign mode, this is a method to make it happen.  In order for a Chosen to be promoted like this, there must be no other Chosen who manage to escape from the final battle - it's fine to turn them into Forsaken, but as soon as any of them escape while remaining Chosen, the game stops looking for a dead Chosen to revive.

More content has been written for bosses in general as well, which means that Victory also has a bit more to make her special.  Victory and Splendor have some unique interactions with each other depending on how they meet (such as which of them were defeated first and whether Victory was put on a Distortion path).  In order to break up the monotony of the boss loop, Splendor also has a few extra story scenes which play as you progress.  If this goes over well, I plan on going back and writing some similar scenes for Victory's loop too.

Finally, there's a new vignette commissioned by Kalloi (who also happened to provide some interesting ideas for Splendor's design which made it into her portrait art).  This vignette has some body modification themes, in anticipation of the body-asset-size-tracking system which is coming very soon.  It can be found by Minor Innocence Chosen on the Negotiation Distortion path, so they finally have one to go along with the Core and Significant Innocence Negotiation scenes.

Next up, I'll be spending some more time on relationship and custom sex scene content, but I also hope to nail down some game mechanics ideas I've been planning in order to make the campaign mode midgame more interesting.  After that, it'll be time to add the next pair of new species: Angels and Devils, which will start taking an interest in the player after Victory and Splendor have fallen.

Release 41: Victory

This update marks another major milestone in the development of campaign mode: the addition of the first "boss fight" loop.  The boss fights of Corrupted Saviors will follow the pattern of putting the player up against an especially powerful pre-defined Chosen and her two randomly-generated attendants.  The first such opponent is Unbending Warrior Victory, the leader of the Animalistic Chosen.  She guards one of the city choices for Loop 10 of campaign mode, and she also has a scenario where you can face her, so feel free to try beating her if you want a challenge!

Victory is the first Chosen you can fight who has a pre-defined personality.  However, you can still customize her name and sex.  And having her be pre-defined has made it possible to give her a lot more customized writing for each corruption path.  When encountering her in campaign mode, starting the loop will display a new multi-part story scene, which I've used to experiment with more segmented display for descriptions and dialogue.  I'll be trying to move toward using this system more for future scenes, rather than the current entire-scene-appears-at-once system.

For players who are mostly interested in using the game to corrupt their own custom-made opponents, this update also includes a long-awaited treat.  It's now possible to make custom Chosen for campaign mode which don't fit the usual personality distribution rules.  Victory herself makes use of this system, as she doesn't have any Minor Vulnerabilities.  Chosen who are flagged as being allowed to break the usual personality rules will also be allowed to team up with any other Chosen, including those who have personality overlaps or personal relationships with them, so you can also encounter family members and such in the same loop.  The Chosen-to-Chosen interaction scenes still don't really account for Chosen who have personal relationships with each other, but I should be able to improve those pretty soon.

Finally, this update also adds another vignette to the Guilty Service->Guilty Desire chain commissioned by Kalloi.  This one is special in that it has a unique effect on the Chosen who experiences it: afterwards, you can meet her in custom sex scenes at the S&M Club location, even though that location is normally reserved for Forsaken.  This is the start of a push to give vignettes special flavor effects for Chosen who experience them, so I plan on going back through old vignettes and adding similar little acknowledgements of how they left an impact on the subject.  Additionally, like Guilty Desire, the new vignette has a variant depending on whether the subject has been met out-of-battle by one of the Forsaken.

My immediate plans from here involve starting work on the second boss Chosen, the vampire who leads the Undead.  After that, there are some more improvements I want to make to custom sex scenes and the relationship system, but I don't want to delay for too long before adding the Angel and Devil Chosen species to the game.  Now that the boss system is functional, I'm also interested in adding optional bosses designed by subscribers - this strikes me as a way to let dedicated fans get their own desired content into the game in a way that other players can enjoy as well.
