Release 20: Observation

The main feature of this update is a new system by which various scenes from the personal lives of the Chosen (and the Forsaken) can be shown.  These scenes, which are referred to as "vignettes," don't have any impact on gameplay mechanics, but they do offer more depth and context for the corruption undergone by the characters.  As part of this system, scenes shown to the player are now saved and can be viewed using a new option on the main menu.  The scene viewer can be used not only for vignettes, but also for viewing the other major scenes which occur during each playthrough.

There are seven vignettes in this first batch, all of which have some sort of sexual content and most of which are very explicit and descriptive in that sexual content.  I'm still experimenting with writing styles for this kind of scene, so I'm interested in hearing feedback about how well it works.  Three of the vignettes are tied to tier-1 Innocence breaks, three are tied to tier-2 Dignity breaks, and the last one is a sex scene between two Chosen, triggered when the one with significant Confidence and the one with minor Confidence have a positive relationship and are moderately corrupted.  Each vignette can show up once per playthrough, and while they don't vary too much from playthrough to playthrough, there are dialogue differences and some minor scenario changes depending on personality and corruption level that should hopefully keep them feeling fresh and appropriate every time they come up.  I intend to continue adding a trickle of vignettes alongside the new gameplay features in future releases.

On the gameplay front, this update includes quite a few adjustments to features that players have reported problems with.  They're listed in the changelog below.

The next update will have some much more significant gameplay changes, as I plan on trying out a major rework of the multiplier balance in order to make PLEA-focused strategies more viable.  We'll also be seeing the first alternative corruption path, which involves turning the Chosen to your side using pleasure and manipulation of the public instead of violence.

  2. Just downloaded R20, when trying to star a new game or load saves from R19 the game hangs forever.

The same saves on R19 load correctly.

  4. Question. Do viginettes play when you retreat? because I'm yet to see any of them after having broken t0 and t1 innocense and retreating?

    1. I've confirmed that they do trigger when retreating. They also have a trauma requirement, though (in order to prevent them from immediately playing for Chosen with pre-broken vulnerabilities). It should be 1 million DISG for the T1 Innocence-related ones.

  5. Also, is there a way to edit saves? Ie to unlock all scenes with a button press? Might be a good cheat to add

    1. Some of the scenes have variants depending on what else has happened during the playthrough, so it might be tricky to implement it in a way that makes everyone happy. Some people might want every single minor variant, while others might not want their scene list to get cluttered. I'll add it to the list of ideas to consider.

    2. Hmmm... could you do something akin to toggles? Ie select the scene, then go and select the varient/criteria that modify it ect?

    3. In theory, I could. But each scene would need its own different set of toggles because each scene depends on different factors, and that would slow down the production of new scenes considerably. I'm leaning toward just letting people control the contents of the scene by using the gameplay itself.

  6. Well... having seen "Sexual technique training" (STT) and "Blackmailed". I can say I'm quite satisfied. Descriptive and hot at the same time... man you're good at femdom tho... STT was so gooood! Can't wait for more femdommy scenes woot

    1. I'm glad you enjoyed them! One of the reasons I wanted to do vignettes was that it makes sense for some corruption elements to lead to sexually dominant behavior, but there aren't many opportunities to see that during battle. Looking forward to writing more of that content.

    2. Woot for more sexually dominant stuff!!

  7. Found a bug. Just loaded my save where I'd triggered the "Sexual technique training" viginette. Used one of forsaken on the chosen that had the scene triggered. Battle proceeded fine but after retreating the game continues to loop when trying to continue back to the menu. Ie Spacers appear but no text underneath and the game doesn't get back to the day start menu

    1. Thanks for the bug report, but I haven't been able to reproduce it. If you can give me a save from right before it happens, or if you can even show me a screenshot of the screen where the loop started, it'd be very helpful.

    2. Thanks again for sending me a copy. It looks like the problem wasn't with the vignette system, but rather with the Forsaken downtime system, and it just happened to not come up until this update. I'll try to figure out a fix, but in the meantime, you should be able to avoid the crash by spending the time slot training Void so that she doesn't try to throw a tantrum.

  8. scene viewer! wonderful. Usually I have to copy and save the scenes to Text for review. Now with this it will become more comfortable. Thanks for your wonderful work. Corrupted Saviors and LonaRPG are my 2 favorite games.

    1. Thank you for saying so! eccma417 is a dev I have a lot of respect for, so I appreciate the comparison. I also remember using the notepad method for text games I've enjoyed in the past, so I'm glad I was finally able to find a way to get the program to display scenes on-demand.

  9. Just a customization question, sorry if it's been asked before.
When manually inputting a clothing option, like changing "armor" to "jacket", will the game recognize the newly input clothing as though it were one of the default randomized options?
What I mean is, since a lot of the clothes have custom descriptions that are lacking for user-input clothing, if a user inputs a default clothing option in the customization screen, will the new clothing use the custom descriptions as though it were applied to the chosen normally?
Sorry, I'm just one of those OCD people who doesn't like my chosen wearing similar outfits (even if the outfits will be replaced once they're forsaken) but I love the flavor text describing the charms on the belts, or the flowing of a robe. Just that little blurb can do a lot for the imagination, so thanks for including it!

    1. Yes, the code that produces those snippets of flavor text just looks at the name of the clothing item, so if you make a custom Chosen whose clothing items use the same names as existing clothing items, you'll get the more detailed descriptions instead of the generic ones. There are some exceptions: I believe that a few of the clothing items are designated internally by text that doesn't match how they're described, and any text that refers to multiple clothing items at once (like the transformation text) will just use a generic variant if even one of the clothing items has been changed from the default. I hope to overhaul the whole system to be more flexible before too long.

  10. Man... Can't wait till we hopefully get Chosen raiding our base... Or even just terrain modifers (Hopefully with special scenes associated with them)

    1. My current plan for the battle modifiers is that each one will have a sort of vignette-like intro which leads into the first round of combat. So, tricking the Chosen into getting stuck halfway through a wall will start with her surrounded, fighting her in an aphrodisiac-filled hive chamber will start her with some PLEA, and so on. I'm still trying to decide whether it would be a good idea to implement it before or after the introduction of campaign mode.

    2. Aphro filled chamber would be interesting... especially if they started flying, and we could drag them down into the aphro...

As for before or after... I feel it'd work either way tbh. Ie with us corrupting the city slowly or the city council deciding to attack the lair to slow down our corruption ect.

  11. Hows this months release coming along?

    1. It's going decently well. I underestimated how much of the game's flavor text could probably use new variants for Chosen who are going down the betrayal path, so I wasn't able to fill out as many as I would've liked. All the new actions and scenes will still have plenty of flavor text, but I'll probably want to go back and add some more variants next time we do a flavor-focused update.

    1. Not in the next patch, but once the update that adds more customization options comes, it'll also add some more extreme body modding that you can do in-game.

    2. Hopefully we can influence the forsakens moves with the mods slightly (Ie bigger ass = more facesitting lol)
