Release 22: Continuation

This is the long-awaited campaign mode update, which brings with it a couple of gameplay features that affect the other modes.  In its current incarnation, campaign mode doesn't add any notable sexual content that wasn't in the game already.  However, it does lay the groundwork for scenarios that wouldn't be possible in the single play mode (like going up against one of the Chosen who discovers that her old partner is eager to violate her and bring her to the Demon Lord, or Chosen coming after you in order to rescue a loved one who you imprisoned during a previous loop).  This is also the first release which allows the player to use the Forsaken in a higher-difficulty game mode, so I expect that this will be many players' first time seriously engaging with the Forsaken mechanics, and I'm still interested in hearing feedback about how well they work.

Unlike hard mode, campaign mode does not have a definite endpoint, and it does not assign the player a score at its conclusion.  Instead, the goal of campaign mode is to survive as many loops as possible against increasingly difficult teams of Chosen.  The factors that make each loop difficult include earlier deadlines and decreased damage (as with hard mode), as well as two new modifiers: a multiplier which increases both the trauma required to perform sinful downtime actions and the amount of trauma those actions resolve, and the presence of elite "Superior" Chosen.  Currently, the difficulty eventually rises beyond what players can reasonably be expected to deal with, but as more gameplay features are added, there will be more options for meeting each challenge.  Players who manage to get as far as Loop 5 in the current version should feel very proud of themselves.

As far as sexual content goes, this update adds a new variant flavor for the Tempt action which can show up in battle.  Tempt users should also be happy to hear that the sex scenes between Chosen can now also fire for female virgins, as long as the receptive partner is willing to have anal sex (either because of Tier-2 Confidence Break or because she's learned to enjoy anal while being Tempted).  Both additions were requested by the subscriber Elmsdor.  A spanking-centric vignette has also been added at the request of the subscriber Kalloi, and a third sex scene between two friendly Chosen has been added too.  The requirements for all vignettes can be checked in the new vignette checklist file included with the download.  Enjoy!

    1. Thank you for saying so! There have been a lot of unexpected deviations, but overall I've tried to stick to a pretty firm roadmap.

  2. Oooooh This is gonnna be goood. Loving the anal focus on the tempt scenes lol... Now for some more femdommy Tempting lol. Wonder if we'll be able to involve forsaken in tempt scenes in the future... Or if there Vul-breaking scenes will be even more special... Can't wait. Whats planned for next update btw?

    1. I want to make it so that Forsaken can do all of the things that you can do when surrounding Chosen, which includes both defiler actions and Tempt. Tempt-specialized Forsaken might not come for awhile, but I definitely want to include them eventually.

    2. Oooooh tempt forsaken.... now that's interesting. Question what other types of tempt actions are planned and are there any variants for tempt scenes based of Futa vs non Futa ect?

    3. Actually... have we even seen female thralls yet? I'm pretty sure all the thralls we've seen in game have been .male. Hoping for some female perverts lol

    4. Tempt scenes already vary somewhat according to Chosen genitals (one of the variants has one version for males and one version for females, with futa sometimes getting one and sometimes the other). I wouldn't be averse to adding some futa-specific ones, but I don't have any current plans to do so.

Regarding female Thralls, they do show up in a couple of places, mostly in the Tempt scenes with male Chosen. A majority of female Thralls remain in the hive as breeding stock, but some do accompany the raids on the city. Also, I don't think this has come up on-screen yet, but female Thralls also often serve the Demonic cause by seducing powerful politicians and businessmen in order to bring them to the Demons' side.

  3. Also found a bug
Transferring a pre version 22 save into a fresh version of 22 (Ie no saves made) makes the game not even load. It goes to a black screen with no text

    1. Thanks for catching this. I believe the bugfix I just uploaded should solve the issue.

  4. In R22 (playing in campaign mode), if a savior can be Surrounded, it cannot be Captured (the button does not appear). Did I imagine things, or was it possible in some past version?
Even if not, it's irking that it's not possible.

    1. Huh, with an upgraded commander I can. So only non-upgraded commanders cannot do that?

      Delete
    2. That's right. I originally made it that way in Release 1 because I didn't want players getting confused about how Surround and Capture can sometimes do the same thing, or getting angry about "wasting" a Capture charge. I'm aware that that's not a very good reason now that there are so many reasons that the player might prefer to use a Capture charge instead of simply surrounding, so I'm thinking about changing it.

  5. Sick. As a sidenote, do tempt actions become unavailable if the chosen was pre-corrupted already? Some of them start out at T2 and it made me wonder.

    1. Currently, Chosen who are pre-corrupted in Morality or Confidence can never be hit by Tempt actions. I want it to be possible, but I'm still deciding how exactly to do it without making it too easy.

    2. Perhaps just reduce the amount of EE generated when getting the initial Tempt proc because of it being easier?

  6. I'm getting vignettes even after the loop is done but before the next one has begun. The vignette text still assumes the Chosen are fighting against demons, so I assume it's unintentional.

  7. If I sacrifice all 3 chosen at the end of loop 1, I can keep clicking "pass time" even past the day where I have to invade the next city (although there is nothing else to do).

  8. Also, Is it intentional that starting/loading a campaign deactivates cheats? Because if you turn them on from the options menu on the main menu, then start a new campaign, the cheats are turned off

    1. It's intentional, since campaign mode is basically treated like its own difficulty option.

  10. Can someone give a rough outline on how to get tempt on a chosen?

I understand the rough idea - you want to get to force orgasm (PLEA) and broadcast (HUM) without breaking the other t1 breaks.

But without cheating I'm completely lost on how to do it. The higher you get plea/hum, the harder it is to boost them up. Without the stacking bonuses from INJ/HATE, you get far less multipliers on PLEA/HUM and even getting to t1 breaks is difficult, much less t2 ones.

Plus, without circumstance damage multiplying all the trauma, it's way harder to get tempt targets in extended surrounds to inflict all the appropriate damage.

In my playthroughs either I all t1 break the chosen in question almost by accident as I attempt to get big enough surrounds to hit t2 breaks, or I get to t3 breaks on the other chosen and bogged down by the slower pace of EE farming and fall into a negative income loop.

Going for tempt slows down my pacing greatly, as farming evil energy feels much more difficult with one of the chosen constantly getting handled with kid gloves. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, could use some tips.

    1. The key is: you _may_ get HATE and INJU, but after the initial 1000 damage (which doesn't trigger anything) it should come out of commander upgrades. And after the Capture is done, get a group action going. After the group action is complete you should get Tempt easily.

You can get decent HATE and INJU with the tech that allows 2 level1 commander upgrades at the same time (you should get the HATE and INJU upgrades, of course). I don't remember if that was enough to get a group action/orgy.

But in lategame, with the upgrade that allows 1 level1 and one level2 commander upgrade at the same time, you can get level1 INJU upgrade + level2 EXPO/HATE(Broadcast) upgrade, that is easily enough.

Note that the level2 EXPO/HATE and PLEA/INJU upgrades are both fine since they imitate Broadcast and Force Orgasm, while level2 HATE/PLEA and INJU/EXPO upgrades are not fine, since they imitate Inseminate and Sodomize, which break the forbidden Tier 2 vulnerabilities.

    2. You can stack INJ etc as much as you want as long as you never do the surround requirement for the break to stack multipliers.

  11. The old bug of the continue button being stuck after you win is back again. Cheat mode, single play day 47, 1 forsaken dead, 2 corrupted. It claims that they are added to the pool but continue is impossible to click and exiting out makes them not show up in the pool

    1. Same problem. Cheat mode, single play distortion route. All currupted. But none of them show up in the beginning menu

    2. I think I might've inadvertently fixed this bug while fixing the other crash. Can you verify whether the bug exists in Release 22d?

    3. I tried the final battle on my save that had the issue with the newest version and the bug was not present anymore.

    1. Right now, campaign mode doesn't have any sexual content that's missing from cheat mode. The current elite Chosen are exactly the same as normal ones except for some numerical factors that make them harder. Once I add elites with unique sexual content, I'll definitely add some way to use cheats in order to access that content.

  13. With the new balance changes, Suppressors and Defilers have become incredibly weak. Specifically because of the reduction to damage based off of highest circumstance, quickly making the damage done shoot down to 2 digit numbers, even with a hate or inju/anti focus. In older builds I really enjoyed using the Demon Lord because of how versatile and frankly, useful the dual suppressor and synthesis upgrades made them. Now it feels like I can't really do anything with them and a basic Commander far out classes them throughout my play through. Are there any plans to adjust damage/damage reduction for these? Am I just misunderstanding the use of them in the new build? Either way, I still deeply enjoy and love Corrupted Saviors, and I hope this month goes well for you CSDev. =)

    Replies
    1. Upon further testing, Synthesis is still quite effective. Defilers on their own are not, dual suppressors perform slightly worse than defilers, and single suppressors are just plain bad. All of these are outclassed by a plain commander in every case I have tried. That said, synthesis was the key to me getting a Tempted chosen, so it gets a gold star. I'm still getting used to the new balance changes, so perhaps I just havent figured out when and in what way to use the other commander modes yet. Cheers!

      Delete
    2. Thanks for the feedback. It's intended that Commanders which don't use PLEA are now a bit weaker than they were, while those which do use PLEA are now a bit stronger than they were. The damage reduction based on highest circumstance is a replacement for the previous modifier of damage reduction based on associated trauma level. If you're dealing PLEA damage and getting high trauma amounts, then the penalty is generally about as big in this version as it was before. The critical difference is that you no longer have reason to avoid PLEA.

For using suppressors and defilers effectively, my advice would be to remember when and when not to use the ambush function. It can often be very powerful to turn ambush off, do a brief surround near the beginning of the fight to put one level of INJU on the target, and then capture the target with a non-INJU suppressor or defiler as soon as the second Chosen shows up. The main advantage of the suppressor and defiler commanders is that you don't need to spend extra turns setting up openings and using Grind/Caress/Pummel/Humiliate, but in order to benefit from that advantage, you need to be able to do something else useful with those turns.

      Delete
    3. Thanks for the advice! I'll see if I can use it effectively on my second city in campaign mode. Got all 3 of the chosen as forsaken in my first city (one was tempted and I'm proud of that). I'm only on day 2 on my second city, so I've got some time to experiment. Gonna try out forsaken as well, though I'm not sure when I should be trying to train them yet. Especially the one got from Tempt. This will be my first attempt at truly using them for combat. I was originally planning to wait until the could do defiler actions, but the idea of testing them out in campaign mode is too appealing to wait. I'm curious to see how they stack up to the Commanders in terms of effectiveness.

    1. Adding portraits to the game. I always keep my SubscribeStar page updated with whatever I'm working on at the moment. The posts are visible to non-subscribers too, so you can look at the current screenshot there.

    2. Will head portraits be a toggleable thing?

    3. Yeah, you can turn them off if you'd rather play with text only.

    4. Oooh good. Man... I wonder if we'll ever get hand drawn sprites for a paper doll or something? Maybe pixel art. Cause fuck thatd be hot

      Delete
    5. I wouldn't expect it in the foreseeable future. A paper doll without enough variants might actually be worse than no paper doll at all, and the number of variants required would be very high, especially considering that it'd need to cover all the custom outfits that players can give to their Chosen.

      Delete
    6. Honestly your writing is so good and the flexibility/possibilities of the text is the greatest strength for me, so I'm not really wishing for some kind of sophisticated visual system.

  15. How often should I see Forsaken stats (disgrace, obedience, those ones) changing when I train them? I spent a day training one of my Forsaken and their stats didnt seem to change by even 1 percent.

    Replies
    1. In order to increase one of the corruption levels, the training session needs to have an intensity greater than the current corruption level plus half the current Deviancy level. So, for one of the Forsaken with 30% Hostility and 40% Deviancy, you'd need to reach at least 51% Hostility intensity to raise Hostility further. This is currently pretty difficult, since the list of training actions is incomplete. Some more intense training actions are coming after the portrait update.

  16. Yo, CSDev. I've been helping someone try to get back into the game after a pretty long break, and they're having some trouble with starting rivalries, and theres some confusion I have with Tier 1 breaks. Do Tier 1 breaks have the potential to start friendships, or only rivalries?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. They can do both. Whenever you break a Core Vulnerability, it'll make progress toward either friendship or rivalry depending on whether the Chosen with a Minor Vulnerability in the same area has had that Vulnerability broken yet. If the Minor Vulnerability is broken, then it'll progress toward friendship. If it's unbroken, then it'll progress toward rivalry.

      Delete
    2. Are there different values attributed to certain tier breaks? Do Tier 2 and Tier 3 breaks give more of a boost towards friendship/rivalry than Tier 1? Tier 1 specifically seems extra difficult to break in order for certain teams of Chosen (Im looking at you Chosen with both Core HATE and INJU -_-).

      Delete
    3. Whether a relationship is friendly or not just depends on whether the majority of the progress scenes so far have been positive or negative. In case of a tie, the higher-tier breaks are weighted slightly higher.

  17. This game has one of the steepest learning curves I know of, and it honestly keeps getting steeper with the more updates that get released. The big balance change a few months back that shook up how to approach encounters, and how damage works was a healthy change for the game at large, but only for people who already knew how the mechanics worked. Unfortunately, I feel like the update made it harder for newer players to get a good grasp on the game itself, and as I've monitored the growth of the game, it seems like it's getting harder and harder for new players to get involved. I still love this game, and it is 100% my favorite find of the year (I discovered CS around February/March). Hopefully we can find a way to alleviate the difficulty of the learning curve in this game over time.

I've been lurking around F95zone's thread for Corrupted Saviors, helping people learn how to play the game and learning more about it myself. I'm trying to think of a way to somehow reduce the learning curve for the game, but I honestly can't think of anything that isn't already implemented. Cheat mode seems like the best way to familiarize yourself with mechanics, but there's no real direction to it, which might be the real problem. Making a more in depth tutorial seems like a waste of time because of how many variables that are involved in a team of Chosen and each encounter itself... IDK. I'm gonna keep brainstorming on my own time. I thought I'd bring this topic up here though, for anyone interested in giving their thoughts.

CSDev, I love Corrupted Saviors, and it get's better with each update. Thank you for putting so much time and effort into this game that I have grown to love so dearly over the course of this year. You're doing the Demon Lord's work! >=D

A second tutorial for Forsaken might be good? I think I have mastered the basic game, but right now, even after reading the .txt, I have a difficult time forming intuition for what I should even be aiming for with the Forsaken.

      Delete
    2. I'm glad you're enjoying the game, and thank you for your own efforts to help people with it!

Regarding a tutorial for Forsaken, I think that part of the reason it's hard to get a hang of it is that the system itself is currently incomplete. After all the training types are in, I'll be taking another look at how to make it more user-friendly.
