Release 44: Metamorphosis

The focus of this update was the expansion of the body asset size system introduced in the last update, but there's a bunch of other content and balance adjustments as well.  Body dimensions can now be customized, and there's a new optional system for Forsaken where the body shift can be accomplished in-game by fulfilling certain missions against the Chosen.  These missions can be used to expand your Forsaken's assets to hyper-proportioned sizes.

These sizes will be reflected both in the flavor text and, if the appropriate cheat setting is turned on, in their combat performance.  There's a new sub-menu in the options menu where the player can look at all the size-associated combat modifiers and toggle them separately.  Most of them increase how much damage your Forsaken deal, so they make the game a bit easier.  But even for players who prefer to play without reduced difficulty, the damage modifiers and flavor text will still apply to custom sex scenes.  Penetrative actions in particular can turn out very differently depending on the relative sizes involved.

On the gameplay front, the main addition is the ability to "skip" certain campaign loops by fulfilling some special conditions.  These conditions are listed in the new "campaign map" file included with the download.  They aren't easy, and they mean skipping some opportunities to add Forsaken to your roster, but the bonus Influence points (for generating powerful items) may be worth it.  If every possible loop skip is taken, then the Loop 10 boss fight will be only the 5th loop of the campaign.  For any players who have been intimidated by the prospect of starting a long campaign playthrough, this might be a good time to try it out.

There's also been a slew of balance adjustments, most notably to the three weakest campaign starting items.  Unicorn Lard and Inferno Pepper simply grant more energy later in campaign mode, while Tomorrow's Newspaper has been completely reworked to make Demon Commanders and their associated upgrades more attractive.  See the changelog for the rest of the changes.

Finally, there's also been some more commissioned flavor text added to the game.  Kalloi's Negotiation vignette chain which a lot of players have seemed to enjoy has had its conclusion written and added.  The subscriber Elmsdor has also commissioned some more variants to the Tempt moves in combat (including both surrounded variants with Thralls and a variant when captured by a Tempted Forsaken).  These commissions both involve some changes to the Chosen's wardrobe, and while the game currently doesn't have the ability to make these changes persistent, that's exactly what I'm going to be working on next month.

The main focus of the next update will be the clothing system overhaul.  I've gotten a lot of requests from players wanting to make custom Chosen with as much detail in their flavor text as the default Chosen, so this should give them all that and then some.

Release 43: Fortification

This update marks the beginning of a push toward better customization content, although it does have one major gameplay addition.  The "Strategic Advantage" system now activates upon starting Loop 12 of campaign mode (and there's also a new single play scenario featuring the system for those who want to give it a try immediately).  When Strategic Advantage is enabled, dealing damage to the Chosen will grant the player points which can be used to seize objectives in the city.  Each objective gives a different unique bonus, like causing some of the damage dealt to the Chosen to carry over into the next day.  This should make for some more interesting gameplay decisions when it isn't yet possible to inflict a new level of Vulnerability Break on the Chosen, but a new objective is still in reach to be seized.

The majority of the work for this update went into flavor content.  There are some new story scenes, including a series for Victory's boss fight to match the one that Splendor already had.  Chosen and Forsaken can now refer to each other with personalized nicknames and titles - this includes both nicknames set by the player during Chosen customization and nicknames they decide to start using depending on events which occur during the game.  Friendly Chosen can pick nicknames depending on personality, family relationship, and on the vignettes they experience together.  Rival Chosen can pick nicknames depending on the negative Vulnerability Break scenes that turned them into rivals.  I think this does a lot to make the characters and their relationships feel more alive, and there's more that I want to do with this system later.

Finally, this update includes some very brief preliminary work on tracking characters' asset sizes, complete with simple Mendelian inheritance mechanics happening under the hood.  Only breast size, hip size, and penis size are currently tracked, but it will be very simple to add more traits in subsequent updates.  They also only show up in a couple of places (Chosen sex stats screen and Forsaken customize body screen) and can only be influenced in a couple of ways (experiencing first pregnancy, and the Satisfied Curiosity vignette added last update).  More customization options and gameplay interactions are planned.  And for players who prefer for asset sizes to remain up to the player's imagination, this can all be toggled off in the content options menu.

The next update will introduce another major gameplay feature, because I want to add a quicker way for experienced players to access lategame campaign content without having to play through a bunch of loops they've already cleared before.  But aside from that, I want to continue to focus on customization and flavor content for at least one more month.  As excited as I am to push forward into the next stage of campaign mode, I think it's important to make sure that the journey there has plenty of content first.

Release 42: Splendor

Another boss is introduced in this update, completing the first pair.  The new boss is named Splendor, and upon reaching Loop 10 in campaign mode, players will be able to choose between her and Victory when deciding who to face first.  Whoever isn't faced in Loop 10 will appear in Loop 15 (and for saves which were already deep into campaign mode before moving to this update, the bosses can also appear in any later loop that's a multiple of 5).  Splendor also has a unique single play scenario where you face her, although the amount of items you're given for that scenario is much smaller.

You might reasonably wonder why Splendor's scenario gives you fewer resources if the two bosses are meant to be equivalent.  The answer is that many of the challenges presented by Splendor aren't applicable to single play mode.  Where Victory represents the pinnacle of active resistance, Splendor represents the pinnacle of passive resistance, causing trouble for you even after you've "defeated" her.

Because Splendor is the leader of the Undead Chosen, this also seemed like a good time to introduce some other Undead-related features.  A notable balance change is that Undead Chosen can now survive being "killed" in the final battle - they're treated just as if they managed to escape normally.  So, getting their allies to kill them is still useful for the sake of neutralizing the team, but it doesn't actually remove them from the game.  On a similar note, there's now a fair amount of content written around normal and Superior Chosen being killed in the final battle and returning as Undead Chosen.  If you have a particular Chosen you like, and you want her to become an "advanced" species so that she'll still be relevant later in campaign mode, this is a method to make it happen.  In order for a Chosen to be promoted like this, there must be no other Chosen who manage to escape from the final battle - it's fine to turn them into Forsaken, but as soon as any of them escape while remaining Chosen, the game stops looking for a dead Chosen to revive.

More content has been written for bosses in general as well, which means that Victory also has a bit more to make her special.  Victory and Splendor have some unique interactions with each other depending on how they meet (such as which of them were defeated first and whether Victory was put on a Distortion path).  In order to break up the monotony of the boss loop, Splendor also has a few extra story scenes which play as you progress.  If this goes over well, I plan on going back and writing some similar scenes for Victory's loop too.

Finally, there's a new vignette commissioned by Kalloi (who also happened to provide some interesting ideas for Splendor's design which made it into her portrait art).  This vignette has some body modification themes, in anticipation of the body-asset-size-tracking system which is coming very soon.  It can be found by Minor Innocence Chosen on the Negotiation Distortion path, so they finally have one to go along with the Core and Significant Innocence Negotiation scenes.

Next up, I'll be spending some more time on relationship and custom sex scene content, but I also hope to nail down some game mechanics ideas I've been planning in order to make the campaign mode midgame more interesting.  After that, it'll be time to add the next pair of new species: Angels and Devils, which will start taking an interest in the player after Victory and Splendor have fallen.

Release 41: Victory

This update marks another major milestone in the development of campaign mode: the addition of the first "boss fight" loop.  The boss fights of Corrupted Saviors will follow the pattern of putting the player up against an especially powerful pre-defined Chosen and her two randomly-generated attendants.  The first such opponent is Unbending Warrior Victory, the leader of the Animalistic Chosen.  She guards one of the city choices for Loop 10 of campaign mode, and she also has a scenario where you can face her, so feel free to try beating her if you want a challenge!

Victory is the first Chosen you can fight who has a pre-defined personality.  However, you can still customize her name and sex.  And having her be pre-defined has made it possible to give her a lot more customized writing for each corruption path.  When encountering her in campaign mode, starting the loop will display a new multi-part story scene, which I've used to experiment with more segmented display for descriptions and dialogue.  I'll be trying to move toward using this system more for future scenes, rather than the current entire-scene-appears-at-once system.

For players who are mostly interested in using the game to corrupt their own custom-made opponents, this update also includes a long-awaited treat.  It's now possible to make custom Chosen for campaign mode which don't fit the usual personality distribution rules.  Victory herself makes use of this system, as she doesn't have any Minor Vulnerabilities.  Chosen who are flagged as being allowed to break the usual personality rules will also be allowed to team up with any other Chosen, including those who have personality overlaps or personal relationships with them, so you can also encounter family members and such in the same loop.  The Chosen-to-Chosen interaction scenes still don't really account for Chosen who have personal relationships with each other, but I should be able to improve those pretty soon.

Finally, this update also adds another vignette to the Guilty Service->Guilty Desire chain commissioned by Kalloi.  This one is special in that it has a unique effect on the Chosen who experiences it: afterwards, you can meet her in custom sex scenes at the S&M Club location, even though that location is normally reserved for Forsaken.  This is the start of a push to give vignettes special flavor effects for Chosen who experience them, so I plan on going back through old vignettes and adding similar little acknowledgements of how they left an impact on the subject.  Additionally, like Guilty Desire, the new vignette has a variant depending on whether the subject has been met out-of-battle by one of the Forsaken.

My immediate plans from here involve starting work on the second boss Chosen, the vampire who leads the Undead.  After that, there are some more improvements I want to make to custom sex scenes and the relationship system, but I don't want to delay for too long before adding the Angel and Devil Chosen species to the game.  Now that the boss system is functional, I'm also interested in adding optional bosses designed by subscribers - this strikes me as a way to let dedicated fans get their own desired content into the game in a way that other players can enjoy as well.

Release 40: Reproduction

This is the update which finally introduces the ability for characters to get pregnant with humans, not just with Demons.  As part of this addition, the system for handling family relationships while the family relations toggle is active has been significantly expanded.  Instead of generating family members as they're needed, the system will now determine the immediate family of every Chosen as soon as that Chosen enters the game, and this information can be viewed from their profiles.  If you defeat one of the Chosen and use her as bait, the game will draw from this list of family members to decide who to send at you.

When deciding when to add the new parent and offspring relationships, the game makes use of a new content toggle which sets what percentage of the Chosen are mothers.  At 0% (the default setting), all family relationships will be sibling relationships, which was the way it worked in previous updates.  At higher settings, it becomes more likely to run into Chosen who have given birth.  Chosen mothers are, of course, non-virgins, and a significant amount of alternative flavor text has been written to replace the default virginity-related text related to Tier-2 Morality Break.  The opposite situation (Chosen who retain their virginity even after Tier-2 Morality Break) will require even more alternative flavor text to be written, but it is in the works.

For players who prefer for Chosen to start out as virgins (and who therefore set the motherhood rate to 0%), this update still offers ways to expand Chosen families during play.  A second new toggle allows the player to specify how likely the Forsaken are to be impregnated during custom sex scenes.  Female Forsaken (and male Forsaken who were given an anal womb during their time as Chosen) who aren't already pregnant can become pregnant every time they have sex.  To make this easier, the action weights for custom sex scenes have been temporarily adjusted so that participants who are interested in sex will skip the foreplay and go straight for penetration.  The Demon Lord can participate in this as well - Demon Lord bodies with penises can impregnate the Forsaken, and Demon Lords with wombs of their own can become pregnant and give birth as well.

One of the traits of the Corrupted Saviors universe is that time flows faster in some places than in others.  The offspring of Forsaken parents will automatically be sent out for adoption in cities where the flow of time runs very quickly.  After a few loops, they'll awaken to their own Chosen powers and will return in hopes of rescuing and/or defeating their parents.  Currently, this will only happen in campaign mode - figuring out how this should all work across multiple single play games will be a bit trickier.

As with all simulation features, there's a lot more that could be done here, but I don't want to get too occupied with flavor content that won't appeal to everybody while there are still major gameplay features to add.  This update does have a few minor balance tweaks: Undead Chosen were probably a bit too easy to cheese by farming them for EE on early days, so they now no longer give bonus Evil Energy for non-core Breaks.  On the other hand, Chosen with high T4 Break progress will now "burn out" and become weaker - their T3 move effects will now be one level lower when their punisher effectiveness gets high enough to open them to T4 breaks, and will drop by another level after the T4 Break has actually happened.  The Showy Publicist Forsaken Punisher effect (which adds ANGST to the entire team of Chosen when achieving Total Dignity Break) has also been buffed to deal exponentially more ANGST depending on the Forsaken's Dignity.

Finally, a new location has been added for custom sex scenes: an S&M-themed love hotel.  Currently, this is a very minor addition, just involving some flavor text when starting the scene and slightly changing the modifiers for "damage" experienced during the scene.  But it's related to the Negotiation vignette chain commissioned by Kalloi, so it'll be picking up some extra functionality in future releases.

Release 39: Mediation

This update adds an option I've been talking about wanting for awhile now - the ability to put Chosen and Forsaken into custom sex scenes with each other!  This involved significant refinement of the code that custom sex scene partners use to pick their actions, some of which will probably be noticeable in sex scenes involving the Demon Lord as well.  The system works pretty well for when the participants have high Deviancy and a good relationship with each other.  It gets rougher when they're lacking either lust or affection - they might get frustrated with each other and start slinging insults, or they might just keep awkwardly praising each other without actually doing anything sexual.  It will get a lot better once I add the ability for custom sex scene partners to actively perform bondage and domination for proper hatesex, and once I add more cute-but-not-quite-sexual interactions for friends, both of which should be coming soon.  Hopefully the existing content is enough to hold your interest until then.

Linked with the above, I've also added the new Ambassador position for Forsaken.  This allows you to send the subject in your place to Approach the Chosen for a custom sex scene.  You can use your Ambassador to initiate the Negotiation Distortion just like you can by sending your own Demon Lord body.  This is currently just a flavor text difference, and much of the text surrounding the Negotiation Distortion can come across as a bit strange if you haven't actually approached the subject in person yet, but it will all tie in nicely to my plans for further improvements to the relationship system.

On the gameplay front, the main addition for this update is the new Retry/Reset buttons added to combat and Forsaken training.  I've always intended for Corrupted Saviors to be a game with minimal randomness where the player is given perfect information about enemy behavior and the challenge is to identify the best possible result for the player's long-term plans.  In practice, because it isn't practical to diagram the Chosen response to every possible player action in advance, this means that experimenting with different sequences of action is necessary to see what happens, and that has required a bunch of tedious time spent in the save and load menus.  The ability to just go straight back to the start of the encounter should make the game's qualify of life feel much better.

A new vignette commissioned by Kalloi has also been added to the game, and this is the first vignette which acts as a continuation of a previous vignette.  Players aiming to put the Core Morality Chosen onto the Negotiation Distortion path will often run across it naturally, but the main condition to note is that the target Chosen must be Approached before the Negotiation Distortion is formally started.  There's a substantial variation on the vignette depending on whether the subject was Approached by the Demon Lord or by an Ambassador Forsaken, so be sure to try out both options!  Another minor addition is the tracking of individual Chosen sex acts - while this doesn't yet have any extra content tied to it, the player can now view the Chosen's exact sex act counts at any time, which might prove interesting for anyone curious about just how much masturbation they get up to at each increasing level of Innocence Break.

With the new additions to Chosen sex stat tracking and custom sex scene mechanics, some features that were previously far out of reach have suddenly become low-hanging fruit.  Namely, it's now possible for future releases to introduce alternative flavors for Breaks which involve different sex acts but share the same gameplay mechanics.  This will allow both for virgin Chosen with Morality Break and for non-virgin Chosen who have yet to experience Morality Break.  And this, in turn, will pave the way for MILF Chosen, including Chosen who are the mothers of other Chosen.  After that, of course, the door will be open for Forsaken breeding programs, inheritable body traits, and so on.  I think it'll be worth the time to start on this content before making the leap into implementing boss fights.

Release 38: Anastasis

With this update, another new species of opponent is now available: Undead Chosen!  These Chosen are those who remember experiencing some sort of "death."  They include heroes who died in battle against the Demons but were revived through the faith of the public, monsters of the night created by practitioners of necromantic arts, and ghosts who somehow remained attached to the world of the living.  Regardless of their origin, all of these Undead Chosen possess a suite of powers which makes them quite tricky to defeat despite their relatively frail, insubstantial nature.

Starting in Loop 5 of campaign mode, the first city option will always be defended by at least one Undead Chosen and the second city option will always be defened by at least one Animalistic Chosen.  In later loops, Undead and Animalistic Chosen can even be found on teams together.  They have roughly the same degree of difficulty, but their gameplay mechanics are quite different.  The species reference file has been updated to include details on Undead Chosen, and the new Undead Clash scenario has been added for players who wish to practice against them outside of campaign mode.

This update has a bit of new sexual content relevant to the new species.  The bodies of Chosen and Forsaken can now be made out of ghostly ectoplasm (used by some undead subspecies) or translucent slime (currently only used when specifically picked during customization).  Amorphous penetration actions have been added for when one custom sex scene participant is made of one of these materials and the other has a penis.  Additionally, the body's sexual experience and the mind's sexual experience are now tracked separately.  This currently only comes up for Undead Aversion-Distorted Chosen (because the player gains the ability to completely rewrite the subject's mind), but it opens the door to a lot of possession and mind-manipulation content for the future.

Unrelated to Undead Chosen, another vignette commissioned by Kalloi has been added to the game, this one between an Aversion Chosen and a Rampancy Chosen who have a friendly relationship.  It's now also possible to encounter a loved one of your Bait Forsaken during single play mode, so players who enjoy that aspect of the game can enjoy it even without playing through a campaign.

Finally, there's the usual set of bugfixes and balance adjustments.  Notably, the Empathy endgame upgrade has been reworked to make it more viable to let friendships develop between the Chosen.  During the final battle, when the upgrade has been bought, Chosen with Unbreakable Friendships will now absolutely refuse to kill each other when the surrounded/captured Chosen has at least 50% Resolve, regardless of how corrupted that Chosen is.  This gives you a lot more time to convert the Chosen, but it also means that you can't rely on them killing each other for you, so it's an upgrade that should only be taken with caution.

The next update will be focused on custom sex scenes, although I do have a few gameplay features I'd like to squeeze into it if I have the time.  After that, it'll be time to start working on the last major feature planned for campaign mode: boss fights.
