Release 33: Cultivation

This update introduces the training plan system, which allows you to passively train your Forsaken without needing to spend in-game days or worry about messing up their combat styles with the regular training system.  Training your Forsaken directly will remain the most efficient, most powerful option for quickly getting them to high expertise values, but assigning training plans to your Forsaken will ensure that they become useful within the next loop, even if the player can't spare any days to directly train them.  Simply assign one Forsaken to be your trainer and then set the others to train for the combat style you want them to use.  I hope that players who been avoiding campaign mode will give it another shot, because it's no longer required to jump straight into the complexities of the training system after the first loop.

The new system also comes with some erotic content of a type we haven't seen much of before.  Many of the training methods are sexual in nature, and in addition to the short summaries of what the trainers and trainees are doing together in the daily report, there are also new vignettes focusing on Forsaken interactions which can happen at the end of the day.  When one Forsaken is training another, and when they haven't previously had a vignette together as Forsaken, a training vignette can be displayed depending on which training plan the trainee is currently using.  I'll be writing more of these in the coming releases, so suggestions for scenarios that would be fitting for already-corrupted heroines are certainly welcome.  This will be in addition to the regular Chosen vignettes (of which Kalloi commissioned another this month!).

This release was originally intended to be focused on fixing long-standing issues, and alleviating the unforgiving nature of the training system was just the highest priority.  The lackluster Defiler attack for Tempted Forsaken has been completely reworked.  It now allows a mid-capture switch to a focused extremely-high-PLEA combat style against any target (and it also automatically triggers the Tempt Distortion against valid targets as a bonus).  The Preparedness campaign city modifier is now less punishing, as it "refunds" one third of the lost days as guaranteed training days after the final battle.  Forsaken can now be shifted between female, male, and futanari at will, and save files with cheats activated can edit most Forsaken parameters directly.

There are still more general improvements to be done.  I wasn't able to find a good way to display how close Forsaken are to switching combat styles (but with how easy it is now to nudge them back toward the combat style you desire, this might be less necessary).  I want to rework the Chosen decision-making code about T1 breaks so that players can see whether a break will trigger in advance (in order to make it more possible to pursue Distortions without needing to save and load before each battle).  I also want to give some more attention to custom sex scenes, particularly detailed orgasm and chastity mechanics.  These things aren't enough to fill an update by themselves, but I'll also be starting work on the animal ear Chosen species, which will come with lots of flavor text and new gameplay mechanics.

Release 32: Rampancy

The centerpiece of this update is the fourth Distortion path, Rampancy.  It's the last of the four Distortion paths which are based on selectively avoiding breaking one of the Tier-1 Vulnerabilities and the higher-Tier Vulnerabilities associated with it.  In particular, by never forcing one of the Chosen to use 'begging', and by never using Force Orgasm or Sodomize/Torture/Force Laughter on her (e.g. by avoiding PLEA and INJU/TICK damage), you can break her sense of compassion while still leaving her pride intact.  After performing Inseminate and Broadcast on her, the final step is to surround her for 15 turns at once while her HATE is higher than her INJU/TICK.  The building frustration will finally cause her to snap and use the new Rampage action.

This Distortion is probably easier to trigger than the other Distortions, but it's also more difficult to deal with once it's been triggered, because there will no longer be a surround duration requirement in order for the subject to start using Rampage.  And Rampage itself is a very powerful action, causing the subject to immediately break free of the surround and become untargetable for however long she would have remained surrounded.  The only benefits are that Rampaging Chosen will deal large amounts of HATE and EXPO to themselves, and that they'll also generate very large amounts of Evil Energy after the battle.

Chosen defeated on the Rampancy path will gain the 'Demon Knight' trait as Forsaken.  Rather than serving the Demon Lord out of any sense of fear or loyalty, they simply fight for you because they've become completely addicted to fighting, and because they want to use you in order to make themselves even stronger.  Rather than costing Motivation to deploy, they actually restore Motivation when deployed and lose it whenever they're left idle.  Furthermore, rather than having a static Evil Energy cost to deploy, they consume however much Evil Energy you have on hand, scaling their own power to however much energy they're fed.  They're most efficient when deployed close to their "natural" cost, so Disgrace is still a meaningful corruption stat for them, but they have a lot more flexibility, which can be especially useful early in campaign mode.

In addition to the new corruption path, a small but very noticeable change is the addition of the "guide goals" system.  This is meant to provide new players with a set of short-term tasks which will get them on their way to a successful loop.  The task notifications can be turned off, and they don't provide any extra gameplay benefit, so experienced players can safely ignore them.  The current system goes up to the mid-to-lategame of a single loop, but if this proves successful, then I'll try extending it so that it covers the creation of rivalries, Distortion paths, and Forsaken training across multiple loops.

Finally, this update also includes another vignette commissioned by Kalloi.  This one is connected to the Negotiation Distortion, and it's a little bit unique in that it can only trigger on days when you've made a truce with the Chosen.  Its only other requirements are to have made a few truces in the past and for the subject to have already started using Fantasize, so it should still be pretty easy to trigger.

Having the four basic Distortion paths completed is an important development milestone.  I'd like to eventually implement a HATE/PLEA Distortion and an INJU/EXPO Distortion, but in the short term, I think it's time to push further into campaign mode and start implementing the other species and the boss fights.  The first step toward that will be to improve the user-friendliness of the Forsaken training and management systems.  Forsaken are core to much of the game's sexual content and progression, but I know that a lot of players find them too troublesome to bother with.  I already have some improvements in mind, but more suggestions are always welcome.

Release 31: Relation

This update allows Chosen encountered in campaign mode to have pre-existing personal relationships with each other.  Currently, they're limited to being childhood friends or siblings, but more kinds of relationship are planned.  Custom Chosen created for campaign mode can be given relationships with each other, and the new "Bait" position for your Forsaken will allow the game to dynamically generate new relatives for the subject.

Any two Chosen who share a personal relationship will never appear on the same team, because so much of the writing assumes that teammates don't know each other beforehand.  And this feature is currently limited to campaign mode, because linking custom teams in single play to your current roster of Forsaken isn't as simple as it sounds.  But relatives who are generated or pre-made should show up very reliably in campaign mode, so it won't be difficult to access the new content.

Another new addition is a large collection of possible epilogues for Chosen who escape the final battle without experiencing a Total Break.  These epilogues describe the not-completely-broken Chosen's experiences after fleeing, and they explain what drives the Chosen to return to fight you again.  For players who haven't yet tried the campaign mode strategy of deliberately allowing a weakened Chosen to escape in order to have an easier time defeating her in a future loop, this wouldn't be a bad time to start.

Fans of Kalloi's portrait pack should note that the versions in the sidebar have once again been updated!  It takes full advantage of last version's naming scheme ravamp in order to give each of the Chosen and Forsaken a set of facial expressions fitting for her personality, so I highly recommend using it, and the tips and challenges packed alongside it are worth checking out.  The new feature that allows you to change characters' portraits without changing their displayed name also makes it easier to switch between the alternative portrait sets in the pack.

Finally, this update also has a new vignette, commissioned by the very same Kalloi.  It was fun to write, and it isn't too hard to trigger as you pursue the Aversion path, so I recommend checking it out.  Next month's update will bring the fourth Distortion path: Rampancy.

Release 30: Delegation

The main addition this update is the ability for your Forsaken to perform Punisher actions (impregnation, hypnosis, energy drain, and outfit parasitism) against the Chosen.  Aside from the obvious fetishistic appeal, this also has a strong impact on the gameplay balance, because each of the Forsaken will have her own special bonus that she grants when you use her like this.  These bonuses can either make the Forsaken herself more powerful, make the victim Chosen more powerful once she joins the Forsaken, or grant some effect that makes it easier to defeat the victim's team in the first place.  The full list of possible effects is in the new "forsaken reference.txt" file packaged with the game.  As part of this system, Chosen and Forsaken are now better at tracking who did what to them, and there's more flavor text for all the various possibilities.

Another notable change is that I've reworked the Chosen name generation system so that each name corresponds to a more consistent range of personality values.  Many of the names are now used by a substantially different kind of personality, and some of the names have been removed entirely, so you might need to rename some folders in your custom portrait packs in order to give everyone the right face.  (Edit: Fans of Kalloi's packs should note that the versions on the sidebar have also now been updated for the new name list!)

The last two major additions are related to making the game more user-friendly.  When the Chosen have enough trauma to perform a more sinful downtime action but don't have the necessary Vulnerability broken, text will appear during their downtime action to tell you as much.  Similarly, when you've broken a Vulnerability that would allow a more sinful downtime action but the subject doesn't yet have enough trauma to consider it, the game will report an estimate of how much more trauma is needed.  The trauma calculation is only an estimate, because the Chosen try to group their downtime actions together to help whoever is currently more traumatized, but it should give you a good idea of when you should be pushing for just a little more trauma and when you should be saving your energy.

Finally, the game now also has a system to estimate whether the Commander you've bought will be able to make any significant progress in corrupting the Chosen.  This is also inexact, because it only looks at the Commander's cost and the available Vulnerability Breaks, and because it can't account for player skill.  In campaign mode, the increasing difficulty modifiers might make the system overestimate what you can do with a Commander.  And of course, a skilled player might be able to do something even with a Commander that the system thinks is too weak.  This is mainly meant to help new players get used to figuring out whether it's better to spend EE or save it.  As a side note, when you have a "favorite" Forsaken set, she'll give you the estimate in her own words.

The next planned update is the one that will allow your Forsaken's close friends and relatives to attack you in order to try to rescue them.  That should have some interesting effects on both the flavor side and the gameplay side, so I hope that everyone looks forward to it!

Release 29: Negotiation

This update adds the third Distortion path, Negotiation.  It follows the previously-established pattern of selectively breaking some Vulnerabilities without breaking others, then doing something special to trigger the Distortion.  In this case, the player must break T2 Innocence and Confidence without breaking Morality or Dignity (except for T1 Morality).  Then after bringing the entire team to at least 1 billion ANGST, you will be able to begin the Distortion by offering a truce to the subject during a custom sex scene.

As you might surmise from that last requirement, this update also introduces the ability to have custom sex scenes with the Chosen.  Unlike the custom sex scenes with the Forsaken, your partner will have the ability to cut the scene short if she really doesn't like what you're doing with her.  Scenes with completely uncorrupted Chosen will generally be very short, but as you continue dealing Innocence and Confidence Breaks, they'll gradually grow more cooperative, whether to satisfy their own lust or in hopes of getting gentler treatment during battle.  You can start custom sex scenes with the Chosen from their Psychic Reading profiles, and there's no cost to doing so, which means that you might as well check with them periodically over the course of the game and see what they're willing to do with you.

The last notable addition is two more sex acts that may be used during custom scenes: oral sex and footjobs.  These were picked to go along with the small rebalance to the partner decision-making process which makes high-Deviancy, low-Obedience partners much more willing to perform "dominant" sex acts, even if they hate you.  These will probably come up frequently in encounters with half-broken Chosen.

Chosen who are broken with the Negotiation route get a bonus to PLEA and INJU damage, which can be quite a powerful combination, and depending on how many times you met with them as Chosen, they can end up with very high Obedience scores even without the usual required training.  I hope that everyone enjoys using the new tools at your disposal!

Release 28: Encounter

This update adds the "Meet" option for your Forsaken, a sort of minigame where you can have a detailed, step-by-step sex scene with them.  Each individual action is tracked, so if you start groping your partner, she might respond by pushing you down onto your back, and then it would be your turn to decide how to respond.  This is significantly different from the previous versions' sex scenes which proceed without much (if any) direct input from the player.

The relative position of the participants is tracked, and most body parts can only be used for one thing at once (so that, for example, if you're receiving a handjob, you need to have your partner stop before you can move on to outright sex).  The emotions and physical state of the participants are also tracked, and they're influenced strongly by your partner's personality and what you're doing to her.  In general, disobedient Forsaken will resist whatever you do while obedient ones will cooperate.  However, Forsaken who are turned on will be more inclined to do sexual things, and Forsaken who are angry or tired will want to stop.  This extends to the actions they choose for themselves: for the first time, Forsaken can offer their virginities to the player directly.

This system deliberately doesn't have too much interaction with the main gameplay loop.  It can be used to (for example) take a Forsaken's virginity in a gentle way that doesn't increase her Hostility score, but this is trivial to do and isn't meant to present a gameplay challenge.  Instead, it's meant as a way to get to know your Forsaken better and see what their various stats actually mean in terms of what they're willing to do for you.  The only main gameplay loop-related restriction is that you can't visit them more than once in a day, but this is just for flavor reasons.  You can relax and have a comfy time playing with your Forsaken as often or as little as you want.

The current list of available actions is quite short, but now that the framework has been programmed, adding more is very easy.  I'll be doing so immediately, as the next update will add the third Distortion path, which involves having custom sex scenes with the Chosen as well.

Release 27: Specialization

With this update, it is now possible to use the final tier of training actions on your captive Forsaken.  In addition to being a very efficient way to increase their expertise and manipulate their combat styles, these training actions also have unique effects that can be beneficial to the current loop in campaign mode, and they also unlock the ability for Forsaken to use powerful defiler abilities in the middle of a capture.

Content-wise, Forsaken defiler actions make up the bulk of the added text for this update.  Activating them has the same requirement as regular defiler actions (10k circumstance damage).  This is generally only practical to achieve in the last few rounds of the battle, and as a result, the number of turn-by-turn variants you'll see for any given Chosen-Forsaken matchup is pretty small.  But I put a lot of effort into adding unique descriptions and dialogue for each possible Chosen personality, Forsaken personality, Forsaken corruption state, and personal relationship between the Chosen and Forsaken (including the new "Obsession" relationship state), particularly when the Forsaken ends up being the first to break the Chosen's Vulnerability.  I hope that everyone will enjoy pitting lots of different combinations of Chosen and Forsaken against each other!

In addition to the regular four defilers, you can also give Forsaken who were broken using a Distortion path a couple of unique defiler actions with their own special rules.  Forsaken who fell to Temptation can help Tempt fresh Chosen in turn, and this is a particularly powerful option because it can be triggered in the middle of a commander capture (unlike the regular Tempt option, which requires you to let them escape and then surround them again).  Meanwhile, Forsaken who fell to Aversion can add their victims to a Defiler+ action in order to create an orgy, even if the victim isn't on the Aversion path herself.  These options should make Forsaken more powerful in the lategame.

This update also adds another face to the default portrait pack, and Kalloi's portrait pack has also gotten some significant updates.  The next update will add some more new ways to play with your Forsaken, so look forward to it!
