Release 9: Substitution

This update adds a major content toggle which replaces most of the graphic violence dealt to the Chosen with tickle torture.  PAIN is replaced by TICKling (a measure of trauma caused by the discomfort of being tickled), while INJUry is replaced by ANTIcipation (a broad measure of exhaustion and expectation of further punishment).  Once ANTIcipation is brought high enough, the defiler action "Force Laughter" is possible to break the Chosen's confidence by showing them how little control they have over their own bodies.

Players who are turned off by the more gruesome descriptions should be more able to enjoy the game now.  Because the general status descriptions when the Chosen are not being tickled do not explicitly refer to tickling, I expect that players who are turned off by both tickling and violence will still find the tickling option to be an improvement.  A few descriptions of pain and blood (notably with large insertions, virginity loss, and violence inflicted by the Chosen themselves) remain unchanged.  As with the other content toggles up to this point, the gameplay itself is unaffected.  The graphic violence setting on the main menu will affect all saves, including those from older versions.

There are also a couple of other minor additions and fixes, so hopefully players who aren't into tickling will be glad to see this update as well!

  1. I have to confess, tickling is more my thing than anything. Feet too, but that's sorta common. I switched over to it, expecting a rushed, simple description of stuff (not in any offense to you, but the general reaction I'm used to when people try to add tickle content), but...to my surprise, it was deliciously written! This has quickly become one of my favorite little games to play around with in my spare time. Thank you for all your hard work in this game. And thank you for giving a quality update!

    1. Glad to hear that you like it! Tickling is something I enjoy, so it's not like I was trying to add something I didn't understand the appeal of. It just didn't occur to me as something that could fit when I first started working on this game. A decent amount of the upcoming content will have tickle variants as well, so hopefully it continues to be enjoyable.

    2. That's super exciting to hear! Your writing for it has been genuinely impressive and I'm thrilled to be seeing more. I do have a question, for which I apologize if it has been answered previously: Are there currently only 3 different base personalities?I ask cause I'm playing around with customizing the saviors and exploring all I can and couldn't find more than that. Not a complaint! I'm thoroughly enjoying my time with this!

    3. There are three different speech colors, and the kindest Chosen will always be blue while the cruelest one will always be red. There are other personality facets, though, and they can be combined in dozens of different ways. For example, one team might include a kind, heroic, headstrong member along with a cruel, cowardly, cynical member. Another team might include a kind, shy, nerdy member along with a cruel, bloodthirsty, stupid member. Some lines of dialogue will be the same across the two games (because most dialogue checks only two of the personality facets at a time), but most will be different.

    4. Interesting! Yeah, I was exploring as many dialogue options as I could, as I thoroughly enjoy flavor, but it seemed like I could only get 3 distinct versions of response from each laughter section (Force Laughter, Spite commander, Dominance commander) so I was just sorta making sure I didn't miss anything. And so far, it seems like I'm not, which is good! All in all, just genuinely great design and gameplay, so kudos to you for such a fun game!

  2. Saw this game linked on a tickling forum and thought I'd check it out. I've got to say, it's really good. I love your descriptions of events, and how you can customise characters from their personality to their clothing (Being able to add custom clothing is a nice touch by the way). I'm looking forward to seeing your future updates. You've made a great game.

  3. "Players who start a new game with early cheats turned on will now be sent to the shop menu instead of the first battle so that they have an option to buy upgrades beforehand."

How do you enable them though? I played till day 30 and unlocked post day 30 cheats, but now i wanted to try again with cheats available from the start. Or is that some kind of premium feature?

    Thanks in advance.

    1. Once one of your save files is after day 30, a new option appears in the options menu which allows you to start new games with cheats available from the start. If you want to try again against the same team with cheats turned on, then you can turn cheats on in your post day 30 file, export that file as a day 1 save, and then import it again.

If you ever lose access to your saves, you can also reveal the hidden cheats option in the options menu by hitting the C key on your keyboard while that menu is open.

  4. Could you share the details of the customization options? Or even straight up make it anything other than a questionnaire?

It would be nice to be able to create some canon characters (like, idunno, Yuuki Yuuna or Sailor Moon or whatnot) that kinda fit the setting, but all the guesswork with the questions makes it kinda annoying, ngl...

Other than that, great game. It's a shame it doesn't have more visibility, only managed to stumble upon it randomly. It really deserves more attention. Great writing, relatively easy mechanics (and a good tutorial + guide as well, which is not that common in all the management games out there). So, thank you for making it x)

    1. I haven't actively promoted the game in communities I don't frequent, since I don't want to be obnoxious about forcing it in places it doesn't belong. I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying it, though. Regarding customization options, I'll paste a short guide I wrote awhile back:

The questions go through each combination of two vulnerabilities (of which there are six) four times: once to increase both, once each to increase one and decrease the other, and once to decrease both. They're ordered like this:

      1: +Morality, +Innocence
      2: +Morality, +Confidence
      3: +Morality, +Dignity
      4: +Innocence, +Confidence
      5: +Innocence, +Dignity
      6: +Confidence, +Dignity
      7: +Morality, -Innocence
      8: +Morality, -Confidence
      9: +Morality, -Dignity
      10: +Innocence, -Confidence
      11: +Innocence, -Dignity
      12: +Confidence, -Dignity
      13: -Morality, +Innocence
      14: -Morality, +Confidence
      15: -Morality, +Dignity
      16: -Innocence, +Confidence
      17: -Innocence, +Dignity
      18: -Confidence, +Dignity
      19: -Morality, -Innocence
      20: -Morality, -Confidence
      21: -Morality, -Dignity
      22: -Innocence, -Confidence
      23: -Innocence, -Dignity
      24: -Confidence, -Dignity

    2. Thank you so much! This will help a lot!

  5. For team customization, is there any chance we can get a list of clothing choices for the Chosen, instead of just their single selected item and writing in something with no prompts?

    1. It would be possible, but there wouldn't be much meaning behind it, since the detailed transformation descriptions can only work with the a small number of specific item combinations. Allowing the player to pick between the outfits with detailed transformation descriptions is on the table, but it's not likely to come in the next few updates.
