Release 11: Mitigation

The main feature of this update is the addition of the most powerful defiler action, Orgy, which acts as the last step above the upgraded defiler actions added in the previous update.  When all three Chosen are hit by the same defiler action, they all get caught together in an attack which deals all of the damage types at once, regardless of which action was used to initiate it.  The Orgy action follows the same rules about letting all the targets escape as soon as any of them do, and it doesn't break any vulnerabilities on its own, but it gets a stack of modifiers based on relationships and previously-broken vulnerabilities that makes it very strong even when it's only applied for a few turns.  Orgies also have a larger number of scene and dialog variations than the other defiler actions, so I hope you all enjoy exploring them.

The other major addition is a very soft cap on the amount of trauma of each type that can be acquired in one battle.  This only applies above 1 trillion damage, which means it doesn't kick in until you've already gotten enough trauma to see all the corruption content up to this point.  Part of my reason for implementing this was to make it less easy to break the scoring system, but the main purpose was to test the mechanic for eventual use in the difficulty toggle system somewhere down the line.

With this update, all the basic mechanics that were originally planned for battle have been implemented.  All that remain are the last two tiers of upgrades, which will involve the last tier of corruption and the final battle.  There have also been some good suggestions for content toggles and quality-of-life features that I'll try to put in along the way.

  • Content: Added a new special defiler action triggered by hitting all three Chosen with the same defiler action at once.  See Step 8 of guide.txt for further details.
  • Balance: Trauma acquired in each battle will now be cut in half above every order of magnitude past 1 trillion.
  • Interface: Tooltips for upgraded defiler actions are now distinct from the tooltips for regular defiler actions.
  • Interface: Buttons for upgrades bought before the battle will now display tooltips that summarize their effects.
  • Bugfix: Attempted to fix some file path issues reported by Linux users.  If this doesn't work, let me know.
Release 11b
  • Bugfix: Damage values in the quadrillions will no longer abruptly jump to Long.MAX_VALUE and then usually crash the game.
  • Bugfix: Some of the forced threesome scenes during Orgy will no longer be inappropriately rare to trigger.
  • Bugfix: The Chosen will stop using Striptease in unusually inappropriate circumstances.
  • Bugfix: The bar that shows projected extermination next turn will no longer sometimes incorrectly take surrounded Chosen into account.
  • Bugfix: The total multiplier summary of all other active multipliers should be able to handle much higher multiplier combinations.
  • Bugfix: A source of post-battle trauma overflow errors has been plugged.

  1. Loving this game! Its such a unique one to play hoping for more types of defiler in the future. Also. What happened to the cheats?

    1. Cheats normally only display after day 30. A bug was causing them to show up when they shouldn't. However, you can unlock the early cheat toggle by pressing the 'c' key on the options menu and then starting a new game. Note that once a save file has been started without cheats on, it isn't possible to turn cheats on in that file until reaching day 30.

    2. Huh, forgot about the c toggle. Thanks.
Any hints on what'll be coming in the next update ;)

  2. Cool. Any chance of more machine sex stuff?

    1. There will be more variants on the current machine commander once the next tier of commander upgrades (and the ability to combine that tier with the current tiers) are added. Beyond that... I'm not sure, but it's also something I like, so I'd like to find a way to work it in.

    2. Woo, more predicament stuff. Could do stuff like Sybians and sex machines as examples?

    3. Also, Is there a fast way to get 100 Million unresolved trama of a certain type without breaking minor vulnerabilities?

    4. Sybian-type stuff is definitely down my alley. If it doesn't make it as a commander variant, then it might end up as an "environmental hazard" type thing, since I want to add those eventually.

Regarding hitting large trauma amounts without breaking vulnerabilities, my recommendation would be to use commanders to reach 10k circumstance damage, then surround and immediately use the defiler associated with one of the core/significant vulnerabilities. This deals lots of trauma of all types, especially if you use the group variant for hitting more than one target with the same one.

  3. Fantastic game so far, best yet since Free Cities and the Era games I think, but character creation is clunky and inconvenient. Also is there anyway to edit a saved team?

    1. It's tricky to add tools for making and editing teams, since the game relies on the personality distribution following certain rules. At some point I want to make a tool that allows you to custom-design a single Chosen in a lot more detail, and then the game will generate a pair of valid teammates. Hopefully that lets people do more of the things they want.

  4. Is there any way to avoid detonation killing all my commander captures? Currently my first capture always ends in detonation and all 3 captures are gone 3 rounds into the fight, it feels a bit overpowered.

    1. Each detonation should only be consuming one extra capture (in addition to the one you originally spent to start the capture). If you're losing all 3 in a single round, that might be a bug.

You can make detonation less of an issue by being careful about the order in which you use your captures. For example, if you have three captures to spend, and only one of the Chosen is willing to use detonate, then if you capture the other two first and use your last capture on the detonating one, then the capture loss from detonation doesn't hurt you at all.

  5. Question. Will we see more of the girls dominating each other as the new tiers are put into play? Ie. If the hypno has triggers, the girls using those triggers on rivals?

    1. The new scenes when the fourth tier is broken don't directly deal with the girls dominating each other, but they will lead to the different endings. I have a lot of plans for ending variants, many of which will involve the more corrupt girls helping to finish breaking the less corrupt ones.

  6. I keep checking your blog every week, this game has me hooked. Is there an ETA on the next update?

    1. Glad you're enjoying it! Next update is a big one (consisting of both a set of upgrades and the last corruption tier), so I'm just aiming to finish it by the end of the month.

  7. I was wondering if you could add a basic image display feature in a future update? So that for example, a character would have a profile picture associated with him/her that shows up during their dialogue scenes and their profile page?

    1. That's on the list of interface improvements I'm interested in implementing. The general plan is to make it so that each of the Chosen can have portrait face-shots for several emotions (happy, angry, crying, pleasured, etc.), and then insert code to switch the emotion displayed during actions, downtimes, etc. I think it's doable, but I still need to teach myself how to code that kind of layout, and there's a bunch of higher-priority features that interact with the gameplay which I'm going to want to add first.
